Homemade Roof Rail???

Hey fellow Jeep owners!

I am looking to mount a few things to my existing roof rails or maybe add some of my own. Any idea on how to do this without buying new rails all together?

I am a storm chaser and I want to mount some weather instruments to the roof but they need to be a few feet above the roof. To do this I will need three support poles coming down, two connecting to the existing track and one on the rear rail (or so I figure...).

Any ideas on how to connect things to the existing track for the roof rails? I thought this would be a simple fix but the solution continues to elude me.

Oh yeah, and any ideas on how to run wires from the roof to the inside of the Jeep? I hate running wires through the door openings but I can't seem to find a better way... I have some wires running through the rear hatch, along the roof track and into the cabin from there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

matt made unistrut cross rails
Unistrut cross bars

Here I is my light bar
Light Bar

This is where I ran the wire, under the cap and drilled down. Fill holes with RTV.

The clamps that are made for unistrut also fit in the Commander rails. Home Depot, Lowes, etc...

My Garage
Shows most of my mods. Sal, Matt and a few others have used thier own rail system.

Rule of this forum, without pics, it didn't happen.

Post your pics, your ride, mods, oh and storm pics too!!
