Drive to 4wd low at highway speed

I have a 2006 commander that will either shift into 4wd low or neutral on the highway. When we turn off the key and restart it it will either stay in Neutral or return to regular drive mode. If its in 4wd low and we try the T-bar sometimes it will return to regular drive and sometimes not. I changed the actualtor motor last year when it did this and now its doing it again. My local garage said there was a transfer case slip code on it earlier this summer but everything was working fine. The dealers and transmission experts say they don't know what's wrong but are willing to take it into the shop and look at it.
Any Ideas before I send my mechanic on a $$ fact finding mission.

What about the transfer case module located under the second row seating?? Maybe that's bad causing it to go into neutral or 4 low?!?

What happens when it goes into 4Lo at highway speed ?

I was wondering the same thing. That can't be good on the transfer case and drive train

I think if it was actually going into 4Lo it would tear the TC up. It may be indicating it is in 4Lo but actually it isn't.

Not only would it tear up the tcase but if it actually shifted to 4low at highway speeds the jeep would lock right up and probably cause you to get in an accident due to the low range of the transfer case. In four low you have a max speed of approx 25mph

when it went into 4lo it all happened very quick but the revs went through the roof and speed dropped very quickly, so we just automatically steered for the shoulder of the road. I put it into park and then to drive but you could tell it was in 4 lo and the indicator was on. Last week it was just going into Neutral, and when I restarted the vehicle it would pop into 4lo or stay in N. I was thinking it has to be electrical, either telling the TC to do this or some type of "short" in the TC shifting it into these positions. where can I get a system breakdown?
