Cool! I wanna see more!

That reminds me of when we were car shopping. We went to the Land Rover dealership and went for a test drive in the LR3. The salesman was driving us off the lot...he started driving over to this obsticle course in the back of the dealership lot. Here we are in this brand new vehicle and hes showing us the capabilities right there at the lot....I thought that was cool as hell. I dont know if any of you have seen those Land Rover courses but they are pretty cool....and yeah, at one point we only had two wheels on the ground..LOL

Cool Daytomann that sound fun!
Yea I have seen those obsticle courses at Land Rover dealers, but I wonder if Jeep has any courses at any of there dealers?...So how did the LR3 handle, and what made you pick the Commander over the LR3???...

The LR3 has lots of gadgets as far as off roading goes. In the end its probably more capable in extreme off road scenes than the Commander..but not much. Most of the LR3 owners never use it nowhere near close to its potential. It handled the off road course with ease. It was impressive. My heart still melts every time I see one.

The LR3 is no doubt a SWEET ride! We were 99% sure on it and one day away from closing the deal. My wife had looked at a Commander in passing when we first started looking ( we shopped for months) and she dismissed it without much consideration. I really wanted the LR3 myself and swayed her in that direction. The day that we were going to make the deal on the LR3we, just for ****s and giggles, stopped into a Jeep dealership to ask about the SRT. The salesman started talking about the Commander, I told him he was waisting his time, but a Limited caught our eye. We looked closer at it and took it for a test drive. We were amazed by the power, the comfort, the features pretty much everything about it we liked.

We immediately walked over to the Land Rover dealership and took the LR3 back out for comparison.....all of a sudden that vehicle that I SO wanted looked pale in comparison. With the Commander Limited we got more power, more features for LESS money than the LR3 (and we were not even going to buy the fully loaded LR3 model which cost another $5k more.) It was a no brainer.

we, too, were going to buy an LR3. We test drove one (although our dealer did not have a nifty little obstacle course) and I must say it is a very nice ride. You hear Land Rover and you automatically want one. We also test drove a Commander about 6 months ago and at the time my wife absolutely hated it (it wasn't a limited). So after test driving about 12 or 14 different cars my dainty little, feather footed mild wife decides she wants a Dadge Charger SRT-8...........needless to say I was smiling from ear to ear. I couldn't wait to drive that a*skicker. Our dealership was having trouble finding one and while we were there we just nosed in at the Commander again. All of the sudden she loved it. I didn't really care what she bought, it was going to be her car.

I will have to say that we both abolutely love it. It is very refined and I can tell from the threads in this forum that it is also a very capable vehicle. The most vehicle available for the money by far. I know some people have had trouble with theirs and I hope they get it worked out but I have to say that I think this vehicle is a real winner. I think Jeep hit a home run with the Commander.

I had an LR3 (actually a Discovery 3 here) before I got my Commander. The LR3 is a hugely sophiticated vehicle with absolutely the best ride quality of any SUV even the Range Rover. Most of the cars sold in the U.K. are diesel using the TDV6 engine used in the Jaguar S Class. My LR3 had to go due to total unreliability. I just didn't know where I was going to get stranded next!!! I had it for 17 monthas and drove it 24,000 miles and it spent altogether 35 working days in the dealership with a whole list of different problems. There were also features in the computer/nav memory which it was supposed to have (for instance a programmable timer for the auxilliary heater) which no one could get to function and Land Rover's attitude was just rubbish.

Add to this that the majority of the Land Rover Dealer network aren't fit to shovel s**t and you get total misery.

My 06 Commander CRD Limited with privacy glass, a removeable tow ball, Nav & VES DVD cost me £32,000 GBP including sales TAX at 17.5%.(Ex-Demo Car) To get an equivalent LR3 with similar spec would be £49,000GBP and that's not even top spec!!!

Holy crap, that's a lot of money. Neither one of those vehicles costs anywhere near that over here in the states.

I also strongly considered an LR3, even though it cost quite a bit more. The only thing that turned me away is the horrible reputation for reliability that seems to go with every new Land Rover vehicle. Knowing that I wanted a capable SUV with excellent reliability, I chose to go with a 4Runner. As much as I'd like to have an LR3, my 4Runner is probably just as capable in the conditions I drive, and it's pretty much bulletproof in the reliability department!

I must agree the LR3 is drop dead sexy, and it could probably out perform a stock JC, but that's just out performing a "STOCK" JC...Let's see a LR3 out perform my JC after I put my 4"LIFT with a set of NITTO MUD GRAPLERS!!!...HELLS YEAH!

Yeah, I really like the styling of the LR3. I even like the Land Rover Sport, even with the ridiculous big rims and low profile rubber.

Did you hear that the Defender is coming back in '07 as an early '08 model? Now THAT is a proper Land Rover!

The LR3 looks great from the front and side view, but the back view of LR3 makes it look like a Kleenex box.

I love the Defenders and can't wait to see what LR does with it.

looks to me like an old early 70s bronco. i don't like it. it screams cheap and ugly. that dash looks like it cost about $50 to build.
i'm sure based on the land rovers history that it will perform great but i will stick with my JC. much better looking.

I love that early Bronco look.
Now that I have seen the Defender...I will pray every day that Ford comes out with this..

The concept has been out since 04 but they didnt have a "real" off road worthy platform for it...it looks like they do now.

I agree with topcop38, the Defender does look like an old cheap LR!!...But wow that bronco sure does look tough, it'll prob give the rubicons and Fjs a run for there money!!...

Well....That Bronco concept was built on a Ford Escape platform :( . That was the only platform Ford had at the time to build the Bronco concept on. The public LOVED the concept and Ford was thinking about building it but true Bronco fans and 4x4 purists screamed HELL NO! when they found out it could only be built on the Escape platform. So Ford shelved it. NOW, they have the Defender and the LR2 platforms that they could easily use for the Bronco. Ford doenst want to build it unless it can be very, very offroad capable. Now they could. :D
