I think the 3.7 QT1 is very capable. Admittedly, the low range would make going over rocks a bit easier. There has been only one obstacle that I haven't made that another Commander did. I just lost traction at the top of the hill. The other guy was is low with a Hemi. I had only dropped my air pressure to 15 lbs and I think the Hemi was running 8 lbs. I don't believe it was a 4wheel low issue or the QT1 issue. I would say it was probably due more to the air pressure or the weight of the hemi giving more traction in the front. I don't think you should hold back because of having a QT1.

That being said, I still think I would go with the 4.7 for towing and the low range if the cost wasn't a concern. I hope this helps! If you have any more questions just drop me a note.
