Hi all, I am a newbie and need help choosing a commander. I currently drive a Liberty and my whole family owns jeeps but no one with a commander. I have a choice of an 06 with 65,000 miles 4.7 V8 for 12,900 or an 07 with 107k V6 for 10,500. I know the 07 has high miles but has been very well taken care of as is the 06. Just a little freaked out that the V8 might be a worse gas guzzler than the V6. What is your opinion. I need to make a decision this week. TIA

Hi,

I would go with any engine as long as it is in a 2008 to 2010 Commander !
You might also appreciate a bit of warranty left...

2 weeks ago, the rear differential AND the transfer case both went dead 300 km before the end of the 100,000 km warranty (Canada). That's on my 2007 hemi limited...

I had the transmission and front differential serviced at the same time and all in all it cost me over $ 1000. to have my Jeep back... I felt the bullet passing real close... Too close...

Now I must replace the brakes all around - pad and disks...
Plus I have a broken bolt on one of the exhaust manifold...

My wife is requesting that I sell the Jeep...

I love it but... Criss !

city driving, 11-15 mpg no matter which angine you have. They're all guzzlers, so go with the 8. You do not have 4lo with the 6. I'd definately go as new and clean as you can afford, and have a trusted mechanic put it on the rack and go over it.

When do you ever find a Jeep with 'good' MPGs; they're designed to go utilitarian, not to go hybrid. I did my test drives between the 4.7L, 3.7L, then the 5.7L... by the time I test drove the 3.7L, I knew that was not the engine for us. The 4.7L was pretty adequate though I was wanting more power/torque :p ... so got the HEMI.

It's best to test drive it yourself to find out versus what we share. As well, have a mechanic check it out so he can let you know what extra expenses to shell out for repairs you can't see from the outside.

I have an 06 3.7L. If you do a lot of highway driving you would get in the 20MPG range with the V6. The V6 is underpowered no doudt about it. You need to drive the two Jeeps to see which one you like.. It depends what your use to, I was use to a V8 turbo diesel and when I switched to the 3.7 it felt like I needed to get out and push it but after a month or so it didn't seem to bad, I like it, it's a good running motor..

Due to the weight of the vehicles, I have found that although you would think the V8 uses more gas, the V6 also uses a lot of gas due to the engine struggling to pull that thing around....

I have the 06 V8 and love it. Im currently getting 11.5 to the gallon mostly city driving. I think the V6 would have ended up getting comparable mileage...
