So I have the standard cd changer in the dash.. I'm looking to buy a GPS and was wondering if anyone uses the flat part on top of the dash with say a Garmin fricktion mount. While I'm at it I may as well ask you guys what your recommendations are as far as brands. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something that works in the $120-$175 range.. Thanks in advance..

I have a TomTom and just use the windshield mount that comes with it - but I slide the windshield mount into the cubby above the radio. Great position and stays there without any problem. Easy to read the GPS there also.

As far as which brand - I have the TomTom and it does OK. Really wish I had the room for my laptop, if you really want a great GPS checkout the Delorme Earthmate GPS. I got the Laptop GPS and connected to my laptop for $50. Really nice feature is voice command - tell it to zoom in or out, pan left, right, up, down and soooo much more. I used to travel all over 7 states and it was a time saver. Loved the large laptop screen and the zoom level stayed at what ever level you wanted. Great route planning and printouts. Shows speed and altitude. Way too many great features to list here.

LOL sounds a little much for what I need.. I didn't know they had such a thing.. I'm just looking for a basic unit to use probably once a month.. The Garmin I had did okay but it had some quirks but that could be because it was five or so years old..

Well I decided on a Garmin Nuvi 50LM with a Garmin fricktion dash mount.. I went to Bestbuy and they had it for $149.00, I went across the street to Staples and they had it for $119.00 so I went back to Bestbuy to buy the dash mount and the girl asked me if I wanted her to get the GPS and I told her it was $30.00 cheaper across the street so she price matched it and off I went.. The five inch screen is nice and seems to work well, I love the dash mount, it's nice and heavy and well worth the $29.00, very well made..
