Hi All,

Can someone tell me if a 2006 Jeep Commander has deadlocks on it, and if it has, how do I activate this feature? I've tried pushing the lock button on the remote once, no joy, twice, still no joy. Also, I can't get the headlight delay feature to work even though I have it set to on in the computer menu in the dash...

Please help if you can...

Many thanks,
Regards, Tom

The jeep commander doesn't have deadlocks, deadlocks are when the lock the you see by the window drops down into the door, my wife has them on here van...put it this way if you lock the keys in the car and your window is open, you can't grab the lock with you finger tips or a coat hanger to unlock it.

Also called drop locks or dropped locked

Ummm my 2007 4.7 Liter Jeep Commander has exactly what you just described. I'm confused

I doubt thats what he asking since he's talking about hitting the lock button on his key fob

Erk I have locked my keys in the Commander at least twice and reached the door pin to open it.

The way he worded it made it a little confusing from what I can tell, but what he implied is that the Commander does not use that feature. We can grab the lock pin, pull up, and unlock the door. On a vehicle with deadlocks, you cannot.

So why would he want to activate that feature???

I remember reading about guys just turning the locks to screw them on the rod further so they'd sit flush when the door was closed. Probably wouldn't be to hard to do that, and/or modify the tip by drilling/tapping it further so it goes down more.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies. By Deadlocks, I mean not being able to open the doors from the inside once the vehicle is locked. This seems to be a standard security feature on most modern cars these days, but I don't think the Commander has them. I'm only asking because I believe some little toe rag has tried to get into my car as I noticed the door seal on the passenger side had come away from the frame one day and it looked like someone had tried tio open the door by inserting something between the door and the frame. Of course, if the vehicle had deadlocks on it, it wouldn't matter as they would not be able to open the door from the inside anyway

Then all they would have to do is slide something down there and hit the unlock button by the window switches on the driver door.

That's a lot harder to do though due to the proximity and smoothness of the switch.

The pop lock is extremely easy to get to with a door wedge and a specially shaped hook. Someone who knows what they're doing can have your door open in a matter of 10 seconds. To press the switch they'd have to get pretty lucky.
