Ok for starters not sure why jeep even makes a 2wd commander and second not sure why i bought one. I got the commander for the third row since i have 3 kids. I actually shouldve done more research i assumed when i asked the dealer was this awd ( cause i didnt see a transferc case button) he said yes i figured he knew what he was talking about. Ok so with that said my question is with out trading my commander in and loosing a ton on negative equity, anyone know of turning a 2wd into a 4wd? Right now in seeing price wise it can be done for $2500 to $3000? I know jeep does use alot of same parts so can i buy this stuff and be fairly bolt on? Everything from new trany on..........btw im doing all the labor myself. And the next question one would have is why not put that money into the equity and trade it off?? the answer to that is i just bought the jeep and right now 3k would only be about half of what i owe. or is the sad reality wait 2 yrs and then trade it off? lol Thanks for the time!
The easiest way to figure out if it is a QT1 is to look at the rear lift gate. In the lower left corner it will have a "4x4" badge. That is, unless, the previous owner took the badge off.

I would assume they make it to help meet cafe fuel economy standards by selling them to rental car firms, southerners, and old people. Only sure fire way to determine is to crawl under and count drive shafts, if one goes forward from just behind the trans, its 4x4, if not, craigslist it. Conversion would be a big mistake. More money and effort than a father of 3 wants to waste. Good luck!
Get down and look at the bottom of the car. If you see the driveshaft heading to the back axle, you have an all time 4x4. I was too confused when I first bought mine and couldn't find the switch to put it in all wheel drive. But you will see the driveshaft heading to the back axle.
If the driveshaft is going to the rear its not necessarily an all time 4wd. The 2wd Commander is RWD (rear wheel drive) only way to tell is if there is a transfer case.
