I just took off the running boards from my XK and I want to replace them with a pair of rock sliders. So far I know of Steel armadillo, 4x Guard, and Rock road have some for sale. I'm liking the 4x Guard become of the close fit to the sides. Do I have any other options for rock sliders? 4x Guard seems really expensive too, is it worth it?
That's about it for choises those three companies. The armadillo ones sit up tight as well but offer a lot more side protection. The 4xG ones maintain almost a stock look to them which is why you loose that side protection. They are a solid slider and can handle the weight of the XK but yes they are expensive. I wouldnt get the rocky road do to there design I seen a set and I personally didn't like the way they hold up. It might help to know what kind of wheeling your going to be doing.
That's good to know that the steel armadillo's rock sliders also fit close. I live in the central new jersey area. I mostly go camping in the Adirondacks were there are a few trails with rivers and rocks. It's nothing to crazy there but there are areas I wouldn't feel comfortable without some rock rails. I've taken my old stock TJ there several times but I was a little afraid to to drive on the rock area of the trail. The other place I do it the Pine Barrens down in south jersey. But that area is mostly mud terrain. Though I haven't looked yet, I'm sure there are a few trails out in Pennsylvania. I took my XK there but I only took it down some dirt roads no rocks or mud at the time. My friend has a rubi JK and we are getting our jeeps ready to go on some easy trails this summer. I just bought a 2 inch lift and I'm hoping I can sell my running boards, which are in very good condition, to lighten the load on my wallet for some rock sliders. Not really much I can get after I spent all my money on the jeep itself.
I think I'm actually leaning toward the steel armadillo sliders myself. Thank you for the offer though.
You're about an hour drive away from me. I'm in the Union county area. You'll have to let me and my buddy know of some good trails with in a 2 hour driving distance. And maybe you can help me out when I have some time and money for more mods.
