Ditto on possible AC. If you have your system set to Auto it will turn on and off the AC as it needs to, even when it's not hot out. I had a SUV that had a huge puddle on the passenger floorboard and it turned out to be leaking from the top of the windsheild. I can't remember if the sides were wet or not but I suppose it could drip down instead of going down the sides.

I know what this is I think

I had the same issue. Pull out the trim and lift up the carpet. There is a blue drain hose that runs from infront of the windscreen where the wipers sit down the piller INSIDE THE VEHICLE and then into a rubber grommet thing in the floor. This drains the water that collects between the hood and the windscreen. There are two problems that can happen with this drain. 1) It comes out and under the carpet gets wetter and wetter until it soaks up through the insulation. 2) the grommet is installed backwards (the hole for the pipe is kind of offset) which means that the drain is under tension and does not completley go into the grommet. I had both problems. I fixed this by fitting the grommet correctlty and then putting clear silicon around it so it could not come out again. Since then. No problem and I drove for six hours in rain and the vehicle sat outside in the rain all night.

Fellas I am pretty confident it is not the AC system. I had been using the AC before the rain...no probs. I have used the AC after the rains...no probs.

My problem occurred during one very distinct period of time and that was during a 5 day storm that hit So-Cal. No prob before the storm, and no probs since the storm. AND...it got worse when I was driving. When the car was parked in my driveway the amount of water did not increase. I would then drive to work (in the rain) and the puddle was much larger. Unfortunately, I am guessing it will happen again during the next storm since they never found the leak. Once again, its not from a sunroof (I dont have one) and it does not appear to be coming from the top since none of the higher carpet is wet, only the floorboard.

Southern California is very low humidity, except when it rains, its condensation from the humidity in the air that causes the water to build up in the Evaporator.

I tend to agree, its more likely a leak from a window seal behind the interior trim.

BUT, at the same time, poking a coat hangar up through the AC drain would take 5 minutes and eleminate it as the problem. A couple of leaves get down into the box and thats all it takes to clog the drain.

Have you tried pulling back the carpet, then take it into a serious car wash? While the wash is running, climb down as best you can and see if you can see the water coming in. Here in CO all car washes have an underbody wash that you drive over. If I leave the drain plugs out on my TJ I get wet jeans from the pretty serious jets of water that's shooting up, so I think if it's a problem from splashing through puddles you should be able to spot it.

Conclusion?

I know this is an old thread, however I would like to know the end result. I also purchased a Jeep Commander from Southern California (Yucca Valley to be exact) and I am having the SAME exact problems! No sun roof, no AC issues, no evidence of water coming from behind the dash board.

How did you fix the issue?

We now live in Oregon (Military family) and it (obviously) pours here... I have a 2 year old, and I don't want the mildew to cause her any health issues

Read this thread. It is long but covers just about all possibilities---> http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8894&highlight=leak&page=57
