Lots of great info here! This site has helped me so many times when dealing with jeep problems.
Anyway, I took the commander in to jeep two weeks ago for some repairs. I ended up with four new brake rotors and pads, a new front sway bar, a fuel system cleaning, and 4 new tires. When i got the jeep back, everything ran really nicely, but...there was an odd vibration at speeds over 50mph. I took the car back and the dealer re-aligned and rebalanced the tires for me. The vibration went away this time, until i got up around 70 mph. I spent almost 5 hours there on Friday trying to get the issue resolved but nothing is fixing it. The vibration isn't huge but i can feel it in the steering wheel a little as i get past 70mph, and i can see the backs of my seats (all seats) vibrating a little when they are reclined (for the backs).
At this point, i have no idea what to do. The dealer suggested I'm just to sensitive to the driving feel but i had practically bald tires before and an out of whack alignment and never felt any kind of vibration. Any suggestions?
Do you have cast wheels or the chrome clad wheels? there is a special adapter used when balancing the chrome clad wheels. FYI, if the vibration got better after they rebalanced the tires, it means they didnt do it right the first time, it could certainly mean they didnt do it right the second time either!!!

I have the chrome clad wheels. I got the car back again on monday and the vibration is still there !!!! im beyond annoyed. Dealer said i was just to sensitive to road feel (r they serious). Will go to a local shop on saturday and hope they can do the job right.
... could also be bent rim, out of round tire, alignment issue... For added precision, make sure you are getting the tires balanced using 'road force' balancing as in many cases that will yield better results than generic tire balancing... but may cost slightly more.
A special machine is needed to balance the chrome clad wheels. I would assume the dealer has that machine. Did they use wheel weights that you can see on the outside of the wheel? If so then that is your problem.

I may be way off here. but I had an out of balance drive shaft on my Audi A6 (AWD) and it took forever to find this problem. Very similar in the sense it didn't vibrate until high speeds. This probably isnt the case, but worth a quick check. If you lift all 4 wheels off of the ground and turn off tracktion control, get the speed up and look under to see if your drive shaft is causing any vibration.
The chrome clad wheels must be balanced using a machine that has "fingers" that fit into the lug holes. The most common machine for this is a Hunter Road Force balancer. If the center hole is used the wheel will not balance properly and the center hole may be damaged.
