Got a brand new OE Jeep key/fob for $69 (first attempt at buy it now was accepted- try lower!). Having it cut was $3 at ACO and programming in the vehicle took 2 minutes (literally). Now I will have 3 fully functioning key/fobiks once I solder the original battery "holster" back to the board.

Need a Spare Key

How do you program the new key? Do they have Transponders? Is this something that "even I" could do ?

Thanks,

If you have TWO keys the car can program more ... the instructions are in the owner's manual.

1. Cut the additional Sentry Key Transponder blank(s) to
match the ignition switch lock cylinder key code.

2. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch and
turn the ignition switch ON for at least 3 seconds but no
longer than 15 seconds. Turn the ignition switch OFF and
remove the first key.

3. Insert the second valid key and turn the ignition
switch ON within 15 seconds. After ten seconds, a chime
will sound and the SKIM indicator light will begin to
flash. Turn the ignition switch OFF and remove the
second key.

4. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition switch and
turn the ignition switch ON within 60 seconds. After 10
seconds, a single chime will sound. The SKIM indicator
light will stop flashing, turn on for 3 seconds; then turn off.
The new Sentry Key has been programmed. Repeat this
process to program up to a total of 8 keys.

You can have a regular made for the off chance you lock the key in your XK. The standard key will set-off the alarm, but you can reset it once you are inside. You only need the programed key to start your XK and keep it running, a non programed key causes the car to shut-off in a few seconds.

My wife lost my 2nd FOB and then spent 250 for the key+programming before telling me about it. We then found the 2nd one so the 3rd FOB was effectively for nothing. This is the one area that seems like highway robbery. My Saturn has windshield wipers that I can't find at any auto store so at least with the Chrysler I potentially will only get ripped off once.

Second Key

Mine came with only one key and to get a second one cost me $125 and that was family dicount from another dealer. They were saying $165. Now thanks to my lovely wife, we only have one again b/c she keeps getting it wet or thinking its cute to let the infant slobber all over it. So you need a second one and it will cost you.

I purchased my 2007 Jeep Commander used with only one key/keyless entry. I purchased a transponder key with no keyless entry on eBay for less than $7.00 including shipping and had a local locksmith to program it for $30.00. I later purchased another transponder key with no keyless entry on eBay, had the key cut by a local locksmith and was able to program it myself within a couple of minutes.

Once you "self"program a new key, do all the lock/unlock/trunk/panic functions on the Sentry key work??

If so, theoretically I could "upgrade" to the sentry key with the remote starter button integrated into it and then train my mopar starter to "listen" for it? Thoughts??
