General Commander DiscussionGeneral Discussion involving the Jeep Commander goes here. If it does not fit into a more specific category below, post it here.
This is my first post here. I look forward to getting to know some of you and meeting you in the next few months. I'm an active member on both Acurazine and MX5.net with more than 10,000k posts between the two. Currently, I have a 2008 MX5 that is modded to the gills and plan for the Commander to get underway as soon as we get it!
I've loved the Commanders ever since they came out, and the time has come where my wife and I are wanting an SUV. When I showed her the Commander she was sold.
We are wanting to purchase a Limited with the 5.7 and all the goodies. I know that in 2009 the Hemi was upgraded among a few other minor things. Is the power upgrade and "added fuel economy" a deal breaker? We aren't buying the truck for its gas mileage, thats a joke...but if the engine is that much better, I'd like to stick it out and wait for an 09-10 to roll our way. Any other issues I should know about besides the over-temp issue, sun roof drains, etc.?
According to Hypertech's dyno graphs that I viewed for their product (includes stock numbers), the 09 Hemi (340 HP) has considerably more HP and torque than the 08 (227 HP). The 07 and up 4.7 also has a decent amount of HP (242 HP) than the 06 one (185 HP). The 09 Hemi in our Aspen is quite powerful, and I love the feel when I get on it, so I'd go for that if the difference is truly as significant as those numbers make it out to be.
This forum has turned in from uneducated Do-it-yourselfer to a better informed Do-it-yourselfer. Look at my post if you want to see what a guy who never grew up around cars can do now because of this site. (not amazing but it was fun)

Oh, wow. I was thinking that the 08s had closer to 300hp. 120 extra hp is definitely a giant difference.

The 06 to 08 hemi has 330 hp compared to 357 for the 9-10 model.
I have the 3.7l which puts out 210 hp compared to 235 for the 4.7.
The 3.7 is a bit sluggish stock, but a couple mods later, i'm able to live with it.

Thats what I thought. I think those dyno sheets are wrong, I checked them out after posting.
