General Commander DiscussionGeneral Discussion involving the Jeep Commander goes here. If it does not fit into a more specific category below, post it here.
Recently we have been experiencing issues with our 06 Jeep Commander 4x4 limited 5.7 HEMI. It has been stalling while coming to a stop at a traffic light or stop sign.
I have read most of the posts here about this issue but it seems like it is more common with the 4.7 engine.
Does that recall that Jeep did cover the 5.7 or just the 4.7?
Anyone help from someone on this issue would be greatly appreciated!!
How many miles on your 06? Do you know the maintenance history?

My '06 4.7 commander has stalled out twice this last year. It has only happened after stopping at a stop sign. Ill get back up to about 10mph and it just quits. Itll start back up fine but im stranded for a minute in the middle of the road.......it shouldnt do this.

Thanks for the responses. My jeep has still been stalling as of late in the cold weather.
In park, it NEVER stalls. It idles just fine.
However, put it into drive, and while coming to a stop, it will stall.
It always starts up again but this is really frustrating.
Sudden stops always equal a stall
A longer, slower stop, usually the jeep will dip to 300 rpm but then catch itself and go back to around 500 rpm and not stall.
Have you checked the air cleaner? I don't know how many miles, but if it were me, I'ld be thinking about spark plugs or maybe a trip to the dealer/mechanic.

I too am having the same problems with my 2007 5.7L Hemi Commander Overland. My jeep is at the dealership AGAIN for this problem. They can not find out what is wrong with it. Since the numerous stalling episodes are not throwing a code, they have decided to replace the electronic module and see if this corrects the problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I do not feel safe driving this vehicle with this problem.
Just to comment on this, I believe that the issue resides in the ignition switch under the dash. Our 2006 4.7L stalls ALL the time. We've had it into the dealership so many times and nothing has ever changed. Going back to why we believe it's the ignition switch system under the dash: I was driving down the highway at 60MPH, probably on the road for about 3 hours, and I went to adjust the seat and hit my knee just under the dash where the keys are located. Almost instantly, the jeep lost power (radio stayed on) and we nearly were killed. We complained to the dealership and they stated that it would be $90 bux to reflash the computer. If we took it in every time, I bet I would end up spending at least $180 every 3 months on this issue.
