The mostly basic commander as I have it now. It does already have a 2.5 lift.
These are the Hankook Dynapro M/T's 265/70/17R
Those are the tow hooks. Cost me a solid 29 dollars from auto zone! I didn't feel like paying mopar another 100 dollars for the mounts. I do plan on removing the bumper and straigtening out the cut out areas but it was late when i put them on and the mosquitos started to feast!
My other off roaders. They see more off-road use than my jeep sadly. There are many more mx tracks here in houston than there are places to wheel (and not get into trouble).
Other side of the Garage is a 68 Ford Falcon Futura Sports Coupe.
You can see the Defender Roof Rack below it waiting for tomorrow night to be put on the commander.
I mounted up some offroad lighting. i think it took about 6 hours total to wire and mount. Here are some pictures. I wired it so I can add higher watt spots to the center two and move them to the rear eventually.
I put the 4xguard plate on this morning. It went smoothly and looks great. Before I mounted it i put rubberized undercoating on the bottom part of my bumper where the guard covers. I like the black background better. I also changed the rear brake pads.
Using the described install method on the instructions. It sure would have been tough without the jack unless I had a second person to help. You can see the taped off sections where I just finished painting the Undercoat on.
Well I guess I did have a helper but she wasn't quite up to the task of holding the guard up to the jeep.
They aren't factory but i've seen hooks of both denominations. It was the easiest way to fit them without cutting more of the bumper out (which i wouldn't mind removing altogether). I really like the look of txbajacommander's ride.

Mine are just the Reese hooks as well. I figured I'd save 100 dollars and just go with those. They still work just fine. CICO you must have done the same thing I did.

That was one of my early mods. YEs, I took off the front bumper
and drilled out a hole and hooked them up. HAd to put the bumper back on to get the cut away done. That was a pain in the tail.....But they work.
I have used them several times pulling vehicles from places they should not have been.
It is an Amateur Radio or a HAM radio. This is one of the cheaper models you can buy (about $120). It is also one of the most powerful models at 65 watts. The frequency range for recieving is 137-172mhz. The transmitting frequencies are 144-148 mhz. You can use the rest of the frequency range to transmit for emergencies if the case arises. Quite handy if you think about it. The recieving range covers the NOAA weather radio, Law Enforcement, Marine Radio areas.
The nice thing about amateur radio is the distance you can talk. In savannah where I just moved from, we have one major repeater tower that is widely used. This tower is actually a TV tower and the company had allowed us to use a lower part of the tower to put up a repeater device which rebroadcasts everything you say at a higer power and from a higher point. This makes the effective range quite good. A CB radio may get your (legal power) signal heard at a couple of miles. 10 miles would be very optimistic. Any time you talk through the repeater in savannah you have an approximate 130 mile range (if you are near the reapeater within 30 miles you can talk this distance using a simple handheld radio). 65 mile radius around tower. You can be near charleston, south carolina and talk through the savannah repeater to people near the Florida Ga border on I-95. That's a good range I'd say.
Put 1.5" spacers on tonight. It looks much better now. I'll put up some pictures tomorrow in the daylight. Also put new front pads and new rear rotors. Now all brake components are new. The front pads weren't worn all the way but i figured while i had the wheels off I would go ahead and freshen them up. The rear rotors were a tad warped and made a horrendous off and on squeak at 0-5mph when advancing slowly at stop signs and speed lights. Now I don't have to hear that any more.
I still haven't put on spacers and the tires rub on the metal "frame" part on the inner front wheel wells at full lock....the lugs get caught on that lip especially when backing up and turning.:cowfrown:
Just realized that it rubs slightly on the black plastic fenderwell. It's not too big a deal though. I'll just reshape it some. Are you talking about the sway bar rubbing the tire? Mine did that before the spacer.
how did you mount your front tow hooks? cause i have the same ones from autozone and i cant figure out where to bolt em on. did you just drill 2 holes in the frame spot there and put bolts in?
