General Commander DiscussionGeneral Discussion involving the Jeep Commander goes here. If it does not fit into a more specific category below, post it here.
I've had my commander for almost 2 years now and it has been pretty good to me over all. Never left me stranded, and the only thing major I've had to do is rebuild the transfer case. There were a couple electrical glitches from time to time, but overall... I have been satisfied. Well, its going bye bye tomorrow. As a GM dealer employee, I got a SCREAMING deal on a 2012 GMC Sierra Z71 4x4. So good, I couldn't pass up. When I say screaming, I mean its a $39k truck I got for $26k. Tell me you wouldn't! Lol. Anyway, thanks to everybody on here that has helped along the way. You guys are great.
I love my XK too but I'm selling. Not because I have had any major issues but there are few things I can't fix(down the road) myself on this vehicle. My 3/36 just ran out and I still have the lifetime powertrain but all of the minor issues i have had have been with the various computers throughout the jeep. For instance, the "self leveling" HIDS went crazy. It took the dealer 3 days to find and replace the computer that controls the headlights. How could I ever do that at home? They had to call the engineer that designed the system!
On top of that, I find out that the HID housings at $1,000 each!!!
I'm a good mechanic that can fix anything but there are so many things that require the correct software to diagnose issues with on the XK.
I'm looking for a 96-99 2500 5.7L Suburban. I'm going to miss the XK and driving a nice Jeep everyday but I need something I can fix if I have too.

I completely understand about the software. I work in corporate aviation, now a days the aircraft are flown by computers and dependent of what position they are in, is controlled by software.

I am very curious about your 96-99 suburban choice. I currently have them up on auto trader. Can you explain to me the pros and cons. They sure do look rugged.
