We lost the spare tire and wheel for our 07 Commander! Had it in for service and I noticed there was a large void area under the Jeep. Apparently the steel cable rusted through and the spare fell out. It had never been used. I don't need the special chrome rim. I've contacted the local salvage yards with no Commanders available to strip one off of. Looking for a inexpensive suggestion for replacing, prefer to remount as it was previously. Is this a known problem with the steel cable? Thanks in advance.

All that they list is an external mount. Not acceptable for our use. Thanks

Are you looking for the cable assembly or the rim?

All I saw was the split twisted wire hanging from the mount. So I'm assuming the mount that includes the cable and spare tire holder and a rim. I can get a new tire locally.

Just a thought, but I bet that the cable was cut and the tire was taken. The cable should not have rusted thru.

I agree with previous post, these cables would not rust through flying spare tires would be a huge liability for Chrysler. It was probably stolen. They can freeze up and never release the spare, but not just drop it randomly. Good luck on your search!

I have taken a photo of the split cable. I don't believe it was cut as it's to close to the car body for anyone to have had access to this area while the spare was still stored.
