Everything Obama and then some...

As a life long Republican...and after watching what happened yesterday, I'll say 2 things:

1. I honestly think the guy wants to do the right thing, and get us out of the crap we're in...regardless of who got us in it.

2. He genuinely loves his wife. If you watched some of the balls last night, you could tell. Unlike Bush, who i never saw touch is old lady...or Clinton...who's wife KNEW he was screwing around, I honestly think these two love each other, and their kids. After what I saw, I trust him more than I did before the election.

I voted for McCain but I hope President Obama is successful. He strikes me as honest, patriotic, and intelligent.

Do you think all the people moved out of the country that said they would yet?

I'm still worried, but not hating him yet. I'll give him a chance. I don't have any confidence in him, but I truly hope he proves me wrong.

After two days he has:

1. Put a hold on Bush's midnight regulations in order to review them.
2. Put a hold on G-bay trials pending review.
3. Frozen his senior staff pay raises to decrease the White House budget.
4. Directed his staff to produce new, more transparent FOIA rules in order to open up government working to the public view.
5. Pledged to not sign any non-emergency legislation until it has been available on the Whitehouse.gov website for five days for public review and comment.
6. Talked with military Commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan about how best to win the war on terrorism.
7. Improved the world image of the US by tenfold.
8. Publicly recognized that all citizens of the US are equal under the law regardless of their religion.
9. Was not afraid to get out of his Tank-illac twice to walk during the parade to the White House.
10. Stayed awake and standing for the entire Inauguration Parade and seemed happy with every performance - and then participated with class at each of the 10 parties.

Now, I didn't vote for him OR McCain, but I think he's done pretty good for the first 48 hours. The real report card will come in about 48 months.

While I am impressed with the things PolarBZ listed I am still quite reserved. The reason being like PolarBZ says the report card is still yet to come. People seem to forget the love affair is still on with OB. This is just after the wedding, engagement being the primaries. So decisions today do not mean he will uphold them tomorrow. Now I am not saying he is out to destroy us, honestly not many politicians ever start that way, they always have what they interpret as the best for us at heart even when we do not see it that way. Did I vote for him no... would I ever vote for him... ask me in 3 years.

Just remember while some relish and live to blame Bush for what we got ourselves into we need to turn the finger around and blame ourselves for not holding all our elected officials feet to the fire and ask they when did they loose their vision and become backdoor dealing, tit for tat players. We put to much trust and power into our officials and power corrupts.

I'm not American, but I think he is clearly a far better choice than Bush ever was. Bush started his presidency with a budget surplus and managed to involve your country in a questionable war in Iraq, possible torture of prisoners of war, a second war in afghanistan, and led the economy down the toilet with little regard for massive military spending. I recognize the important role America has in policing the world, but I really think Bush over extended his powers with little regard for long term consequences. I think Obama is the man for change, but I wonder if it is too late. What happens to all great empires? Rome, Mandarin Dynasty, Germany, Britain.

All good things come to an end, but I think America still has a long future ahead of her. There is never a too late. Consider what we started with.

America just needs to take some time to regroup and re prioritize. We got overextended in many areas and simply need to pull back and recover.

Well first of All Mr I see it from my side of the fence... ITS NOT BUSH'S FAULT. OK no matter how much you hate the guy its not his fault get it through your head. All this hatred blah blah blah Bush is annoying. Its a American issue that needs to be addressed and rightly so. Torchering... damn skippy and I would do it in a minute if it means saving peoples lives over the views of ignorant fascists followers. And thanks to your country's location your "military" budget is crap due to the fact you got REAL Guards protecting you. I think the world has allowed certain groups gain too many rights while ignoring the plight of others. You can not favor one group out of fear without sacrificing another and isn't that what we are doing? Creating courts to rule on Islam law in non Islamic countries? While you are entitled to your opinion, it is one created by your government controlled media and not free thinking. I have read some articles written in your so called media and its stuff even the New York Times wouldn't print due to its stench.
