Seat Warmer Wiring

So I am going Monday to pick out colors for my soon-to-be-installed Katzskins kit (I'm leaning towards an Ash/Olive combo), but before that can be put in I want to get the seat warmers installed (oh how I wish tax refund season had come before winter).

These are the elements I am looking at:

I am wanting to do both the front and second row seats (4), but my question to the electrical experts is where to draw the power for each seat? I already have two wires run from the battery through the firewall (one for the stereo & NAV ACC and one for the rear monitor & NAV 12V; four connections total), but don't want to overload a wire, relay, or fuse by adding too much more. As swift as I have become at running these wires through the firewall, I don't want the battery to look like it's being eaten by 12V vines.

These are the electrical specs for each seat's pair of elements:
12 V system
Wattage: 24~36 Watts per Pad, 48~60 Watts per seat
Current Draw: 3 Amps on Low Heat Setting and 5 Amps on High Setting per Seat.


I was thinking about just using the rear power outlet (it never gets used for anything anyways) as the 12V source for all four, but my common sense suggests that this (out of all the other mods) would be a good candidate for (another) dedicated battery lead/ACC relay set-up. (*a side note, but something to consider- I would like to convert the current 12V constant lead for the rear monitor to an ACC lead. Could this run off the same source as the warmers?) Another power source option suggested by the seller was power seat or steering column leads. I do have a power driver's seat, but would there be other 12V/12Vacc sources available under each seat?


In anycase, any opinons, tips, anecdotes, or certified electrician advice would be greatly appreciated.

Had a small epiphany as I crawled into bed last night - I bet the reason that the Mopar heated seat kits are offered as a set of four for the WK but only the front two on the XK is that the XK seats fold, flip, and otherwise move around making the wiring more difficult to route/secure (especially the control switch). I still want to do all four, though. Is that going to be a huge problem?
If I run all four off a single dedicated battery lead it would wind up being 240w, 20A, 12V when/if all the seats were set on high. That doesn't sound like too much; less than a lot of subwoofer/amp setups that run off a single lead, right?

...or can anybody with factory heated seats tell/show me where the element(s) plug into (at/under the seat)? I have the factory buttons on an extra dash piece and they illuminate when plugged in... if all I need is the factory elements that may be another route. Anybody?

Well I feel a bit like I'm talking to myself here, but in the off-chance that someone with advice is looking I am still trying to nail down a perfect wiring system for the new seat warmers.

This is a diagram of my proposed set-up. The goal was to consolidate wires to make the most of the limited routing space (firewall, door sills, A-pillar, etc.) and have a professional appearance, while still having proper and reliable power supply to every device.

If anybody is out there I would love some feedback! Heaters get here Friday; got to have a definite plan by then.

I'm no wiring expert but you may want to check out these. I used one for my amp remote turn on and it worked out well. Based on the electrical specs you'll probably want to run two if you're still planning on 4 seat warmers.

Just behind the battery are 2 boxes full of fuses and circut breakers.
These are connected to the battery at the end of each box with a heavy terminal. It is a good source of power without the vining look.

There are also a couple holes in the one furthest back. ( on mine anyway) and relays fit in those holes. So, if you are interested in that spot, you can hook up a relay or make a connection and keep it nicely hidden.

What are the open relay sockets controlled by/lead to? I was wanting to keep the new set-up isolated from the factory electrical system because... well out of fear mostly, I suppose. But tapping into a high(er) amp relay that is already in place would really save me some time and trouble. At the very least I can tap the power source at the end of the box. The engine bay looks okay now, but with the accessories adding up I fear the secret garden may need a more concise approach.

Well I looked under the hood and will definitely be doing some work in/near the fuse boxes. Thanks again for the suggestion, Cico. There is an empty relay socket in the Power Distribution Center box that is meant for the EATX; electronic automatic transaxle. The relays that usually fit in there are only rated to 20a, but if I can find a 40a relay in the same size/pin structure I could contain a good deal of my wiring right inside the OEM fuse box!
Also, while I was poking around in there I noticed that terminal 8 is a 40a fuse for "Acc delay, locks, and seats." If I tapped that wire for my relay trigger would that mean my "extras" would remain powered after the ignition was turned off the same way that the factory radio, sunroof, windows, etc do? That would be stellar.
