Subwoofer quantity vs quality

No really sure what to do here.....
I am looking at JL Audio subwoofers.

I have had in the past years; (2) 12's then (2) 15's, then I had (3) 10's.

I want to try 8's. I have been evaluating prices for JL Audio 8 inch subs....now I can purchase one the following 3 combinations at around the same price.

DO I run;

(3) 8W1's
or
(2) 8W3's
or
(1) 8W7

this is kind of interesting...quantity vs quality.

Confused, need advice. I will be selecting a Rockford Fosgate amplifier. I will select it after I pick out my sub configuration.

Thanks!

Summer project: Yakima roof rack with KC lights and Kayak Carrier....on board air for beach driving.

I'm sorta in the same boat as you.. I have a 1 12w3 in there now but the box is way to big my dog is crammed back there. I was thinking about going 1 good 8 or 1 good 10 staying JL. Running the 500/1 amp

At one point I had two 12 inch Sony subs, and then later 1 15 inch Kicker L7.

So quality without question.

Might want to run 2 good quality 8's. I am running 1 10" JLA sub in an acoustically sealed box w/ JLA 500 W amp - plenty of bass (more than I need actually), but I find that the full range is lacking at the mid bass level. Xover set at 80 HZ so it might just be the Infinity speakers (replaced the stock junk) that might not be responding. Have you tried any dynamat in the doors and over the wheel wells? I might give this a whirl cuz it might improve the overall tone/sound.
