Prep for Aftermarket Nav Help

I am new to the forum. I just got (via a hand-me-down from my wife after my XJ died) a 2006 base model Commander. I quickly got sick of all the wires (GPS, XM radio, iPhone charger, iPhone audio input) and decided to look into an aftermarket Nav Rec that would included all of this. That brought me here - tons of great info. I decided on the Kenwood DNX9960 after a month of going back and forth. I will be doing the install myself.

What I'm looking for is any input, things I should look out for, or anything I just plain overlooked.

Here is a list of what I've ordered so far:

Commander Nav Bezel - eBay - $135.00
Double Din install adapter - eBay - $6.99
Kenwood DNX9960 head unit - eBay - $1079.99
Video Lock-out bypass for above - eBay - $24.99
KCA-iP301V iPhone cable - eBay - $9.53
KCA-XM100V XM Radio Interface - eBay - $117.74 (with mini-tuner)
XM Radio Mini-Tuner - eBay
Kenwood CMOS-300 Back Up Camera - eBay - $252.50
Steering wheel switches (adding to steering wheel) - Dealer- $26.00
Steering wheel control harnes - Dealer - $19.00
PAC SWI-Jack Steering Wheel Interface - eBay - $44.95
Pac SWI-CAN2 Steering Wheel Interface - eBay - $46.95

I think I got everything. Let me know if I'm wrong.

I am also looking for a good way to "integrate" the Kenwood iPhone cable into the center console somehow - so i could basically plug the phone into the console like you would an iPhone dock (my goal here is super clean - NO WIRES!!).

I have a kenwood deck (love it) and I put the usb in the little cubie to the left of the steering wheel. You can pull down on the piece under the steering wheel and it hinges like a glove box. Then pop out the cubie with your hand. You can drill a hole for the usb to fit, if you drill it low enough the black grip insert will cover up the hole nicely. I really like this option, you can get in you car and drop it right in. And can still get to your phone to send text or what ever. Also i have a garmin and i fed the wiring behind the dash, popped out the left cigarrette charger (so it turns off with the car) put it behind the dash, electrical tapped it up, plugged the hole with the cap and there is no wires showing, really clean. I can get pics for you if you want

I completed the install last weekend. I can't tell you how many times I consulted this forum for help. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Some notes on the install: I did not need the swi-can unit, but I did need the Commander specific harness (Amazon $43.00). I also forgot the antenna adapter (Local Electronics store $15.00). The entire install took about 9 hours over two days. In hindsight, the $252 back-up camera was a little overkill (but it's cool). The hardest part of the install was programming the steering wheel controls (thanks ybnormal) to work with the Kenwood rec (one of the buttons still isn't working - not sure why yet). I was worried about fitting all the wiring and modules in the dash - wasn't a problem. The Satellite Radio box is in the glove box - may relocate (very little glove box space left). The dash adapter leaves small gaps that I don't like. I may look for some thing else or make one (diamind plate?). I made the the little tray in front of the shifter into a permanent iphone dock by epoxying the iphone cable into the bottom of the tray from underneath. It needs to sit a little higher in the tray for ease of docking and access to the iPhone home button when docked. I bought another cable to redo that.

I love the DNX9960. I lost the "dvr" features and graphics of my old XM receiver - not a big deal. A little bit of a hassle getting the bluetooth (phone) and the iPhone direct connect (music) to work together. Other than that everything works awesome.

Phase 2 is headrest monitors for middle row, overhead dvd for 3rd row, xbox, and new speakers.

Phase 3 is a lift and wheels.

Phase 4 (if everyone I know doesn't talk me out of it) is new paint (thinking flat black and chromed out)
