Satellite Radio Q & A (Have a Satellite question, check here first)

Am I just stupid or what....I activated my sirius radio yesterday when I got my truck...when I turn it on all I get is the weather station (184)...how in the heck do I change that to a music station or any station for that fact??? Have hit the scan button and tuning button but nothing happens. Please help if you can....thanks. By the way, so I dont sound too stupid I have never had sirius radio before so this is a learning process for me.

Re: Sirius trouble

If all you are getting is the info/weather channel (184), then your receiver did not pick up the signal that was sent to it when you tried to activate the system. You will need to call the 800 number again to try and reactivate the system.

Re: Sirius trouble

I had them activate it this afternoon and I still only had 184, They gave me a user name and password to get on my account on the internet and I was able to send myself another activation signal and it worked. I moved my vehicle further away from my house the second time.

Re: Sirius trouble

Thanks orucco I was thinking that may have been my problem when I initially activated it that it was too close to my house or something which prevented a good signal or something...will try again tomorrow.

Re: Sirius trouble

If you were listening to 184, then you didn't have a bad signal. You do need to have the radio on for a period of time, however. Best bet is to do it right before taking a 10-15 min drive somewhere, which isn't hard to arrange in a new Commander.

Re: Sirius trouble

So you wait a period of time and then try to tune in other stations? You are right a so called "few" minutes in the Commander ends up being much longer...haha.

Re: Sirius trouble

Sounds like the city you live in has terrestrial based signal repeators. Basically if you live in a bigger city (like here in Denver) we have ground based antennas that give us the sirius fed in case we drive too close to a building or under a bridge. I had the same problem and the Sirius rep told me to make sure the car has a clear view of the sky, regardless if I could hear 184 or not.. Once I got it out were it would see line of sight to the moon, and then activated it, the unit downloaded all the channels. The trick is the ground based repeators don't work for activating, only the satellite is capable of activating the unit. So if you are going to be activating your unit, make sure it can see all the way up.

Re: Sirius trouble

Mine took a few days to activate after I called Sirius. I was actually on hold with them, calling to ask why it wasn't working, when it started receiving the signal.
