Navigation unit water damaged - can it be saved?

I have a 2006 Limited 5.7 with REC Navigation system...I made the mistake of leaving the sunroof open the other day and there was a sudden downpoor. By the time I got out to close the sunroof, the entire dash was soaked.

When I drove it following drying everything off, the screen was initially fuzzy/dim, but still visible and was still fully functional. Over the next couple days it got worse, and now will only light up, but not show anything, and nothing else works (no audio, no nav, nothing).

Is there any hope in salvaging it if I take it apart and try to clean and dry it out?

Ouch. There might be a shot. Try taking it out and removing the back cover. There might be more water in there. I've heard people that dropped their phones in the toilet have had good results from packing it in rice for a day or two. Head to the grocery store and buy a couple pounds of white rice (not the minute kind) and pack the unit in a bowl or box with a lid for a couple days and see how that works.

Good luck I hope it works out for you if not I see them used online once and awhile. You can also check out http://www.car-part.com/ and ebay and others to find one that won't brake the bank.
