Radar Detector Hard Wire: Where to tap in?

Just got my hardwire kit, i was going to see if i coudl tap into the left cig lighter line, as it seems to be the only one that is switched with the ignition (my right one is on all the time?!)

Has anyone else done this? what power line did you tap into?

Re: Radar Detector Hard Wire: Where to tap in?

I hard wired my detector in and used the fuse box. Just used the lowest amp fuse (ignition controled) I could find and soldered to one side. I then installed the fuse so that if it where to overload, the power feed would still break. For ground I just used the nearest metal bolt on frame.

The left is on with ignition, the right is battery powered, on all the time. Forgot the color, but its just two wires to the lighter one power and the other ground. Easy to figure out with a meter or test light.
