Another HU question

Thanks for the responses about the CANBUS issue. My local retailer quoted me a price of $640 for an Alpine IVA-X001 ($400 for the HU, $120 for CANBUS interface, $90 install, $30 tax). Now, i believe the Alpine is a great HU, but that's a high price for such a limited HU. IIRC, I can get the factory NAV unit for around the same price at Moparparts.com and maintain OEM integration while also having the upgrade option of installing the rear backup camera. Who is the manufacturer of the electronics in the OEM Nav unit and is it a fairly good product?

Also, how difficult is the install of the speakers in the Commander? I used to install my own speakers and stereos in the cars I had from the time I was a teen until after I bought cars with upgraded Bose stereos (sucks). It's been about 6 years since I've installed anything, so I'm a bit rusty. Should I be concerned?

Re: Another HU question

I believe the navigation system is either manufactured by Alpine or Harman. Either brand is a good high quality brand.

The only downside with the factory unit is that Navteq didn't give Jeep their most up-to-date dataset even with the last navigation update. Hopefully this will be fixed (probably this fall) with the next map update.
