Alpine IDA-X001

Just bought this HU and will have it installed Saturday. Anyone have experience with it? Speakers will follow in the next few weeks also. Am looking at some Infinity Reference Series 6x9s for the front doors, 6.5s for the rear doors and the 3.5s on the dash. Any other ideas for good car speakers?

Re: Alpine IDA-X001

I'm no guru w/ car audio but stick w/ the Alpine brand for your speakers...I have an Alpine speaker system (Type-S series) for the wife's Wrangler and I'll do the same someday for the Commander.

Re: Alpine IDA-X001

Do you have to cut teh factory connectors off the speakers? Is there a connector that will allow you to use the factory connectors to the aftermarket speakers like they use on the radio harness?

I think either Crutchfield or Circuit City have connectors that will adapt the new speakers to the factory harnesses. Otherwise, yes the factory clips need to be removed.

The other alternative is to splice into the line with T-taps. They just slide over the existing wire, no actual splicing necessary. They generally come with the male spade connectors you plug into the t-tap.

You get them at any parts store. I like the wiring harnesses from Crutchfield, but then you have to wait.

Oh, I put JL Audio 3.5" in the dash and MTX 3 way 6x9 in the doors. Couldn't be happier.

Re: Alpine IDA-X001

I've lined up Polk db 690 (6x9), 651 (6.5") and 351 (3.5") for now, but am not married to any brand right now.
