iPod question

I'm new to the whole iPod world. My iPod was ordered, and now I'm wondering if I can use the same cable to plug it into my Jeep as I used for my old mp3 player? It would plug into the earphone hole on one end, and into the jack on my dash on the other, then just push aux to hear it right?

Or do I need the whole iPod integration thing I'm reading about? I don't care if I can't use the buttons on the steering wheel.

I searched, but didn't find an answer that really satisfied my question.

I have the Mopar iPod integration kit only because I have the RAQ radio which doesn't have an aux in jack

However, if you get the ipod integration kit, the sound will be improved and you can navigate the music with the head unit. The integration kit will also keep your ipod charged.

If you're happy with the sound, and don't mind playing the songs from the ipod itself, then using as you do your current MP3 player is definitely the cheapest and easiest route, even if not the cleanest install.

So to answer your question, yes you can do that.

The ipod offers no real advantage over any other MP3 player when using it like that though. The ipod gets more powerful when using the integration kit, or when you get an aftermarket head unit that has Ipod integration. For example, I have a Jensen VM9312 with Ipod integration. I can play songs from the touch screen, or watch videos I have on the ipod on the car stereo.

The more you spend, the more functionality you get.

Awesome, thanks. I'm already getting ****ty sound from the Boston system (radio, and all speakers have been replaced, and there's still major issues), so I'm not worried.

I plug my iPod into the jack on the head unit. Sounds good enough for me. I do have to crank the iPod's volume up pretty high.

I have one of the old minis (the aluminum one, monochrome, 4 gig.) which comes with a plastic belt clip. Fashioned an L-shaped metal bracket which bolts to the side of the console and puts the ipod inbetween the ignition switch and the air conditioner controls. That way I can see and control it easily while driving.
