9 inch Android Head Unit

I'm new the Commanders and have been doing some research and getting her ready for a big trip around Australia.

One of the things I've been looking at is a 9 inch Android Head Unit, to use for lots of things including 4WD & touring maps all over Australia.

I've come across this one and wondering if anyone's already installed it or something similar - it seems to be bigger than a double din & fits the NAV opening perfectly?

I've looked at it, and it looks like a great option for filling the stock navigation hole. I've also heard great things about Seicane.

My main concern about it would be the requirement of a 3G connection or Wi-Fi for Google Maps to work properly. I can see it making sense if you take the time to download offline maps.

The Seicane units are special, designed to be OEM replacements. As a result, this specific head unit is designed to plug into the factory wiring and supports the Boston Acoustics system.

No satellite radio, unfortunately. Very few head unit manufacturers have built in support for satellite radio, and as far as I know there are no Android units that support it. The head unit would have to be licensed by SiriusXM to support satellite radio, which unfortunately is very unlikely with Android units.

However, there is a SiriusXM app for Android, so as long as you have a 3G connection, you can still stream satellite radio channels.

9 inch Android Head Unit Install

Hi All - Thought I'd show how my head unit stall went with my Commander.

Firstly I started with this crappy standard unit.

https://www.jeepcommander.com/forums...7&d=1540549222

Removal of dash front was pretty straight forward.

Dash on the ground

I had previously purchased a radio bezel conversion off eBay

https://www.jeepcommander.com/forums...3&d=1540549697

Before fitting the bezel conversion which converts to same size as the Jeep Nav radio unit - you need to remove the old bezel.

After removing, it looks a little like this

My original bezel looked a little "hacked" after my amateur removal

https://www.jeepcommander.com/forums...9&d=1540550405

The new head unit on bench.....

https://www.jeepcommander.com/forums...1&d=1540550489

And first placement into the dash. I simply plugged in the complete loom supplied which had a canbus decoder to match the Jeep - all plug & play - only took a minute and I could power up and play videos!

https://www.jeepcommander.com/forums...3&d=1540550567

The dash front just went on as easy as taking off to reveal the new look

https://www.jeepcommander.com/forums...5&d=1540550633

After adding in my home wifi details, she's off & running doing updates already.
