2018 north american map update

I'm contemplating purchasing the 2018 NORTH AMERICAN MAP FOR UCONNECT® 730N (RER) before the $50 discounts ends at the end of the year and wondering if anyone could help with a few questions. For starters I haven't been able to discover which version I currently have or how old it is. Anyone know where that information is?

https://chrysler.navigation.com/prod...ChryslerNA/USD

How often are new releases made and is there anyway to know when the next one will come out?

This for an '09 Overland,
Thanks

You should go ahead and get this as it could be the last update for your year Commander, and that is a great price with the discount. The last updates for 2006 - 2008 Commanders was the 2013 update. There will be no more updates for those model years unless someone makes a hacked version. Make sure you have the RER unit before ordering.

Good information 5253, makes it an easy decision. I thought the RER meant it was the North American version, if it means something else - how do I check?

RER is the model code for the NAV unit. According to the link you posted the update is only good for this unit (RER) in the Commander. It should be on front of the unit near the lower right corner.

Just a quick update on this. I ordered and received the map update which also came with a system update. The system update went well, however the map update would only go about a third of the way and gave me a dvd error message. Although the dvd looked fine I contacted the vendor and they sent me another dvd set - all went well this time.

It will be interesting to see how noticeable the updates will be. Before the update I went to a relatives house in the new neighborhood and the navigation was way off. Had to pull out my phone.

What are you doing with that DVD that didn't work???

Maybe it'll work in a different radio. I'd be willing to try it out for you. Ha ha.

I just got and applied the 2018 update ($99 from here.com) as part of my efforts to upgrade to full "factory" MYGIG UCONNECT 730N RER, from base RES. The software upgrade went well and it is very accurate even businesses that have changed in the last year. I also turned on Sirius traffic to see how it works -- and it is seamless. I tried it out yesterday. It was "old home day" for the small NH town to which I was heading. That town had shutdown its Main Street for the festivities. The RER 730N not only showed the proper icons where Main Street was blocked off for the events, but also rerouted me around it correctly and automatically. The 2018 map/system update+Sirius Traffic works like a champ -- still fully functional, accurate and useful. There is a Engineering Menu (Menu / Seek-up / Seek-down) that I think shows the versions (caveat emptor.) Also, the DVD appears to be locked/coded for a specific VIN and radio serial number, as they ask for both at time of sale.

This for an '09 Overland,

With google maps so easy to use while driving and the still archaic nav system in the MYGIG, it's an extremely hard purchase even at the discounted rate.
