remote start on 08 overland

Had a weird thing happen today...i hit the remote start, and the truck fired right up and ran for about 10 seconds, then just shut off. When i got in the truck and started it again the check engine light was on. Truck is driving normal, but the light stayed on. Parked it and tried it again...same thing...ran for 10 seconds then shut off....any ideas on why and why the check engine light is on?

Newbie here. In fact I just bought a 07 yesterday. I had no issues driving it home from the dealership. However, today my check engine light came on. I'm experiencing the exact same problem with the remote start; it will fire up for a few seconds and then shut off. I just flipped the key and I'm seeing DTC Codes - Done. Furthermore, I've also seen the Service Park Assist message several times as well. It is cold outside ~ 10F so I'm not sure if this is related to the thermostat issues others have reported. Not real promising for the 2nd day of ownership.

mine did almost the same thing. Every time i used the remote start the engine light would come on for a day and then go out. I looked at the remote start wiring and one of the wires were loose on the relay. Pushed it back on tight and fixed the problem. My remote start was behind the panel under the steering wheel. Just pull down on it. It opens like a glove box.

Thanks I'll have to check that out. Ironically enough, between last night and today, the check engine light turned off and the remote start worked fine. I let it warm up for about 10 minutes and let it sit in reverse for a minute before leaving the driveway. However, when I first drove it down the street, it was extremely sluggish and would not drive faster than 20mph. I switched it between drive and neutral a few times. Finally I pushed the paddle shifter to the right and it engaged the trans. Bizarre.

This may be due to ice or snow on the sensors.

The Commander will not keep running by remote start with the check engine light on. It's a safety feature or something like that. Clear or fix what is causing the check engine light and the remote start with go back to normal.

I went out in the garage this afternoon and disconnected the battery. I also wiggled all the connectors under the hood and underneath the steering column. I didn't notice anything loose. After I hooked up the battery and started it up again the check engine light came back on. I drove up to the local gas station and turned it off for a few. After I started it back up the light was on again. Then I drove over to the grocery store about which was about a 30 minute commute. After stopping in there, I headed back outside. It started up with the remote start and no check engine light. I drove it around some more, shutting it off and on a few more times and the light hasn't come back on since. We'll see how long this lasts. At least it shifted fine and doesn't seem to have any problems accelerating.

On a side note, I noticed today that the driver's side step panel says 'Grand Cherokee' and the manufacturer's sticker on the door has been removed. It makes me wonder if this thing may have been in an accident that was never reported. Both Carfax and AutoCheck came up clean when I ran the report.

Illinois does not require insurance companies or repair shops to report to carfax or any other agency.
So, yes, your vehicle may have a past that has not been reported.

I think there are four states that don't require reporting....I just know Illinois is one of them.
