New Battery = $$$$$

If you haven't had to replace the battery yet, be prepared. Mine conked out this evening. By the time I got back to town, the only place that was open was AutoZone, Advance ,and Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart didn't have one in stock and AutoZone and Advance were both the same price. They each only listed 1 for the XK. Duralast Gold and Autolast Gold. $144.99 with a $12 core. WOW !! ( The Optima was about $60 more )

Its a big battery.

Prices have jumped up lately, like ammunition, anything that uses a lot of pure metal (lead, brass, copper, etc). The Chinese have been buying up those metals and hoarding them, decreasing the supply in the rest of market.

Last November, the Jeep wouldn't start. Dead as a door nail. Still under warranty (33K) so I had it towed to dealer. Diagnostics: $107, Battery: $188.60! Total: $315.27. If I had known it was just the battery, I would have done it myself! So, you got off easy!

I have a winch so I opted for the Optima Yellow Top and couldn't be happier.

Yeah, I was pretty much shocked of how much batteries have gone up. I got sick to my stomach when my BMW 335i sedan's battery went bad (delay start and random errors appeared). That alone cost me $450 (includes a dealer matching discount of 10% off). Just two weeks later, my XK does the same thing. I ran a few errands, and then wanted to get some pricing as well. I thought about Walmart, but auto department was closed, and it was dark already. Advance and Autozone are nearby my house, right across each other. I meant to go online at home to order a battery w/ a 20% off discount through Advance. Too bad the XK decided to call it quits after my Autozone visit. So I had no choice but to get it there. Luckily I spoke to the manager, and he matched their discount. At the end, I paid about $130 overall, w/ them replacing it for me.

Talk about miserable times w/ batteries this year for me

Don't forget to ask for the military discount, for all you military types out there, at Autozone and Advance (usually 10%). You can at least save 10-20 dollars on an expensive battery like that.
At NAPA they have been giving me the corporate discount as a military discount (they said that they don't have an exact military discount) which has been amounting to 25-40% off my purchases. My local Napa has earned my buisness.
