I changed out my front and rear pads on my 4.7L commander today. Now when I am turning either left or right there is a loud creaking. I de compressed the calipers, braked lined up, and everything seemed to go smooth. There is no stopping issues or vibrations when driving nor stopping. Help!? Needs to fix tonight.
You get the creaking while turning the wheel, or you get it in a left or right turn, and do you get while braking in a turn, or get it just in the turn NO braking, or Both?
A few things that come to mind off the top of my head:
*Did you torque down the lug nuts properly?
*Did you clean the surfaces between wheel/rotor/hub?
*Did you lube the contact surfaces for the pads/calipers with the proper grease?
*If you have more than 60k miles on the vehicle, did you re-lube the caliper guide pins?
*Did you resurface the rotors, if NOT how flat were the rotor surfaces?
In other vehicles, when I had the pads worn out, and the noise tab would touch the rotor to give me the warning sound, it seemed to do it in turns. Best I can figure, the forces in a turn where enough to cause just a few thousands of an inch shift to increase the noise from the tab on the pads.
So, maybe that is the same sort of thing going on, in a turn, the forces cause just enough shift on that hub to cause a little rubbing that isn't there while driving straight.
, new pads on old rotors that haven't been re-surfaced, the rotor surface is wavy and and the new pads do NOT make full contact, that can create some noise until the pads bed-in and wear down to conform to the surface of the rotor.
, cheap pads, failure to make sure everything is clean, lubing the contact points only, and NOT spilling lube over on to other surfaces, can cause brake noise.
