Oil in sparkplug wells

Hi,

I decied to give the commander new plugs as it's over the 100000 mark for mileage. When I took the plug boots off I found oil in the wells in about 12 of the 16 wells. It has never burned blue out the back so I can't see it being a ring failure issue. Has anyone else on here noticed that issue when changing plugs? I replaced the sparkplug gaskets just to be sure but haven't checked to see if oil is loading back up in the wells as of yet. I have an 06 5.7L HEMI. Thanks in for any an all input or suggestions.

On a Hemi, oil in the plug wells results when the valve cover gasket leaks.
It is a rather complex gasket that has the plug bore seals molded in.
With the mileage you have, I wouldn't get too worried about it.....had the plugs been an inch deep in oil, that would call for gasket replacement.
There is a possible cause beyond gasket failure...that being a bum PCV valve.
If it is not flowing air properly, the crankcase can become slightly pressurized, causing oil to be pushed out of any easy place it can find.
That is me reaching though....If the plug holes load up again, say in 2 or 3 thousand miles, then I'd say gasket replacement is called for.

Regardless, this is not an indicator of any major engine problem so don't fret too much over it.

At a 100k miles, you can't rule out its a collection of spilled oil that leaked its way in, as well as the PCV suggested.

I'd clean it out and check it again in a few months, see if the oil is collecting again.

If you haven't replaced the PCV sound like your due, might want to do that as well.

Thanks for the input, I ended up replacing the spark plug gaskets just to be on the safe side. Also noticed that my oil dip stick has a spiral in it. A friend noticed an said that wasn't right so I got a new one from dealership an guess what the new straight one sticks out about 3 inches from the top an will not go any deeper ( it's the same part# as the old one). So now I'm wondering if the sprial tube being shorter in lenght has been causing extra oil to be added to make it read the proper level. Which maybe why I have oil collecting into the plug wells. I will also change the PVC valve too now. Thanks again for all the help.

The HEMI dip stick is supposed to have the spiral design. The reason your new one won't go all the way in is because it is the wrong one.
