Windshield wipers

Need help with the windshield wipers coming on by themself. You are driving and all of a sudden wipers are on. The control switch is completely in operative.
The only way to turn them off is to shut the engine off. This just started to happen about a week ago but is happening more often (progressively getting worse).
It's a 2006 Commander, 4.7 litre engine and NO RAIN SENSING WIPERS.
Thanks.

Since you say the switch doesn't work don't you think that might be the problem ? Replace it.

Sorry, I meant to say that once the wipers come on all by themselves, the switch becomes compleatly disabled. You can try to turn it on/off but nothing happens. However when the wipers are not turned on by themself the switch works just fine. It seems that something else takes control of the wipers.

I think you should replace the switch. Sounds like the intermittent wiper setting is working without being turned on.
