2008 3.0L airconditioner problem?

I am not sure if this is a problem or not, the dealer says it isnt. Anyway when the car is standing the aircon doesn't work very well, when I checked out the electric fan behind the radiator it was not running. All the cars I have owned before, the fan cuts in as soon as you switch on the aircon otherwise you don't get the heat transfer. Does any one on the forum have a 3.0l diesel and could you check if the fan cuts in when you start the aircon.
I must have written something incorrectly as nobody has given a reply . I will try asking another way. The electric fan behind the radiator usually has two functions 1: when the engine gets hot it cuts in to cool the radiator. 2: when the airconditioner is started the fan cuts in to cool the airconditioner condenser radiator in front of the normal radiator. The problem I have the fan does not start when I start the airconditioner is started, is this normal on the Commander?
