getting her fixed up...

Finally making the time to getting her up to date and travel ready...

The essential to do list:
- recalls - there are a couple to catch up with
- water leaks from sunroof. It's driving me insane! I already had her fixed by a Jeep garage once, now again... Will see if the top seal also needs replacing + one of the ducts is blocked again - problem is it's a design fault, so you fix it and it happens again...
- Minor squeak in front suspension over speed bumps. I am paranoid about brakes and suspensions, so having it checked out
- One of the wheel valves snapped off
- Aircon leak to investigate
- The magic 'service 4wd' light has come up a couple of times, so gearbox oil and filter to change
- Starter missing a few beats when I leave her sitting all week

Gone to official Jeep service... the 'investigation' is 280 and the 4wd service alone is 580gbp... then the rest to estimate... does not seem great value for money... but looking forward to having the car in tip top shape again soon.

Then I will enjoy driving it more, and start focusing onto more exciting things like tires and roof rack...

Now waiting to hear back when it will be ready.

You have to remember, the newest Commander there is, is still 10 years old, so, maintenance and upkeep is inevitable.

However, if you do maintenance routinely, before there is a problem, you can avoid having issues pile up on you.

If you do preventative maintenance, you will have even fewer issues over the long haul.

I just got new valve stems put on by the guys at Sam's Club for no charge. Wasn't expecting that. It shouldn't be more than $5 each anywhere else.

If I were you, I'd do them all and don't let the shop unmount the tires - because then you'll just have to pay for rebalancing. Just pop the bead and work on them that way.

If you have TPMS, get new batteries at the same time.

Thanks for the tips.

The recalls are done + the 4wd / gearbox oils are changed.

To fix the sunroof it's unblocking of the pipe + reprogramming of the sunroof as it does not shut tight.

The poor starting is due to glow plugs & control unit (a ~800 job).

Suspensions are fine (wohoo)!

But drive belt worn (~350)

I got quoted 1000 to fix the aircon leak / pipe, but I'll wait on that as I am not convinced. So everything but aircon is about 2200.

She'll be back next week.

Then I'll need to get new tires, so will do valves at same time.

yes you are 100 % right - as you say, you can only buy them second hand, so surprises are inevitable - all of these happened all rather suddenly... but hey, I still love the black tough box on wheels that she is... and in fact I am secretly trying to mobilise a 4x4 group from work to have some fun... she's not designed for shopping ;-)

The tractor is back, and in good form.

Now need to plan next steps...

immediate needs are tires as front ones are nearly gone. I am pretty convinced about the K02s, but torn between stock size (245 65 17) or a little taller (245 75 17)...

Looking good Iocopocomaioco.

Most people are itching to get rid of the factory stance and usually opt for taller and/or wider tires.

However you if you like the way she sits now, there is really no need per say, to get bigger tires.

I think the real determining factor is whether you plan on driving her off-road regularly; If you do, I'd definitely consider larger tires.

If not, than it's just a matter of what "looks" more appealing to you.
