Commander-Friendly Trails (Arizona)

Excuse me if this has been introduced before.

It might be nice for us to compile a list of trails in AZ that are Commander-friendly. Seems that a lot of people may not know which trails they should take and could possibly get into trouble by hitting the wrong trails.

Our vehicles are a little unique (along with the Grand Cherokee) in that, they are very capable off-road vehicles, but they do have their limits (especially in stock form).

Maybe we could have a rating system. We could base it on:

1) Stock - (Easy, 1-2 4x4 trail rating) Graded roads, dips and ruts. 6" boulders or steps to navigate, up to 18" water crossings
2) Mildly upgraded - (Moderate, 3-3.5 4x4 trail rating) (2" lift and 32" tires) unimproved roads, heavy ruts, boulder fields with up to 10" boulders or steps to navigate, up to 21" water crossings
3) Modified - (Difficult, 3-4.5 4x4 trail rating) (2"+ lift, larger tires, sliders and bumpers, upgraded 4WD system. Damage or contact with obstacles is likely

Some info on trail difficulty

Provide a map and maybe a link to it on trails.com

we just ran Table Mesa trail and I would qualify it as a solid 2 based on the river crossings and a few small boulder fields.

One we found a couple of weeks ago just below the Mogollon Rim. I would give it a 1-2.5. Some remote camping and it starts right next to Tonto Creek.

Take the 260 out of Payson East. When you get to Kohl's Ranch, take a left turn to the fish hatchery (Nf 289, Zane Grey Hwy). There are several camp sites right off the road on Tonto Creek. They even have restroom facilities.

Go in about 2 miles from the 260 and take a left turn up the unimproved access road. we only got about a mile in, but it looks like the trail might go forever.

Sheeps Bridge (2)

Take I-17 north to Bloody Basin road then go east till you hit the verde river and Sheeps Bridge is a fun one. You can come back the same way or go south at Camp Creek rd which puts you out and Carefree

I am sure you are already familiar with Reddington Pass near Tucson. But I thought I would list it for those who may not be. It ranges from 1-5 but most tough obstacles are optional.

(edit) May not be an option currently with the wildfires raging east of Tucson, so hold off for now I guess.
