Few question regarding stock tires and new rims

Ok, my first question is do the Goodyear Forteras come standard on the 06 commanders? Are these tires good for light off-roading and casual driving? Are there any black wheels out there that I can simply swop with the stock alloy wheels without having to mod anything? Are there any good All-terrain tires the same size where I would not have to lift? If your asking, I park in a garage and I have not a 1/2" to spare in clearance!

I can take the first two questions... No the Forteras which come stock on almost all Commanders are not good for off-roading. I ripped up three on one trail and Hueypilot ripped up some on another easy trail. The Forteras might be great on the street but they are worthless on the trail.

Some people have painted the stock wheels black.

Regarding tires, there are many other tire tread designs that folks on the forum use. Get them in the stock size of 245/65/17. With only a 1/2" to spare, you need to be aware that tires with the same specs do vary slightly in size across manufacturers and tread design. I would advise staying away from Mud/Terrains for that reason.

My GY SA's are great in rain and snow and just OK in mud.

I have P255/65R17 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor mounted on my stock Hulk wheels. These tires are approximately 1/2 larger in both diameter and width compared to my original Forteras (P245/65R17) The Forteras are rated to be 60,000 mile tires, but I had little tread left at 37K. I bought the new tires from Goodyear (prorated) for $600.00. They have agressive tread, are very quiet, and I have zero rub issues. I do not have a lift, nor do I plan to get one.

Well, he has a 1/2" to spare so if he got these, I guess he'ld be rubbing the rails off the top.

I put firestone destiation at's in the stock size on my Commander. They are perfect for what you want and after about 25k miles there is no cupping or other unusual wear.
