Need Opinion on 20 inch tire sizes

ok so i'm about to order the grand cherokee SRT8 wheels for my commander....i have 2 options for tires, 275/45R20 and 255/55R20. i used the tire size calculator and it shows that the 275/45 is closer in size to the stock tires, with about a 29.74 inch diameter and the 255/50 has a diameter of 30.03 inches....however the 275/45 is more than an inch wider than stock, but the place im getting them from guarantees both tires will fit.....which tire would you guys recommend? thanks

I would go 255/55/R20 due to the size of the wheel. But its a preference thing.

I'd go the 255 route as well and have a little more sidewall.

ill def post pics....there are things about each tire that i like more than the other....id rather have the little bit extra sidewall because the roads here in NY arent the greatest, but i think the extra width on the 275s would give it a more aggressive stance.....the 255s have a diameter of 30.3 inches....does anyone know if those will fit on stock suspension? what im worried most about is the gap in the wheel well....i dont want too much of a gap

Both tires should fit without any rubbing on the wheel well. However, what you have to worry about is if the tire/rim will clear the the strut / sway bar etc. What is the width of the rim as well as the backspacing/offset of those 20's? That will be the biggest determining factor of how they will clear.

2006 Commander Limited, 5.7L HEMI, Quadra-Drive II, NAV, 2.25" Rocky Road Lift, AEV 17 x 8.5" Pintler Rims with +10mm offset, Goodyear Silent Armor 265/70/17's, 4xGuard Matrix and grill hoop, PIAA 525 dual beam auxiliary lights, K&N Cold Air Intake, Full skid plates, Tinted fronts, Rear hitch shackle, Yakima bike carrier, Thule Atlantis 1800 roof carrier.
Current Wish list: 4xGuard Front Skid Plate, Rear tire carrier?!?!

So are you asking about the 255/55R20 or 255/50R20 because your post list both sizes which I believe is a typo.

Here are the specs for all three just in case.

275/45R20 : 29.7 inches tall, 10.8 inches wide and 4.9 inch section height
255/50R20 : 30 inches tall, 10 inches wide and 5 inch section height
255/55R20 : 31 inches tall, 10 inches wide and 5.5 section height

So if you meant the 255/50 tire then id say defiantely going with 275/45R20 since its practically the same height, almost the exact same section height (sidewall) and is much wider which is what you would want for that type of wheel set up. Just my .02

If he meant the 255/50R20 then there is really no difference in section height (sidewall) between that tire and the wider one.
