I think you win the "Member With the Most Jeeps Award". Shouldn't the title of this thread be "Jeep Fleet" instead of "Heep Fleet" ?

Thanks! I am a mechanic with a touch of OCD so I can't help but be anal about how my Jeeps look and run.

Thanks! I have loved Jeeps all of my life since I first drove one on our farm at the age of 8. It was my Dad's 69 Commando (Dauntless V-6/Turbo 400) across a creek and slung mud everywhere.

I joke about my "Heeps" all the time, its just an affectionate way for me to be modest about my fleet. There is no better car make on the planet IMHO.

I will post up specs on each rig as I get time.

Very cool indeed.

I'll post some specs on each rig on the following posts. I get the most questions about the trail rig so I will start with it. I bought the XJ 3 years ago with 180k on the clock. It had been partially built with a RE4.5 SF lift, 32" MT's and the snorkelfor $1500. Being the anal mechanic I am, I took the Jeep apart and started over!

Here is where I am at with it;

1996 Cherokee Country, 4.0/AW4/NP 231, 180k

Engine; Stock, w/Firepower ignition system
Tranny; Stock, I have a Hayden tranny cooler and a B&M tranny temp guage on it to pro-long its life.
Axles; D-30 front w/Aussie Locker, Longfield birfs/shafts and 4.10 gears. Chryco 8.25 rear w/Detroit Locker and Yukon shafts, 4.10 gears. RuffStuff covers.
Front suspension; Rubicon Express 4.5 superflex springs, ACOS, Currie Johnny joint LCA’s, Currie HD JJ track bar, JKS quicker disconnects, Rockman JJ adjustable UCA’s, RE Drop Brackets and braces, home made bumpstops, OME NitroCharger shocks.
Rear suspension; Rubicon Express 4.5 superflex springs, homemade DPG style adjustable bump stops. OME Nitrocharger shocks, raised shock mounts. H.D. Off Road Engineering shackle relocation brackets.
Transfer case; NP 231 with Advance Adapters HD SYE and Tom Woods shaft.
Protection; OEM front engine skid, Warn T-case skid, Tomken tank skid, Detours sliders/stiffeners. RuffStuff covers.
Recovery; Logans Metal Products bumper and WARN xD9000i winch, receiver hitch.
Tires and wheels; 35x12.5 BFG MT’s, Craiger soft 8’s.
Interior; All stock. Custom tool/parts box in the rear for the gear. UltimateAir CO2. Uniden CB/Firestick antenna., GPS and Nav system. iPod hooked to amp for my tunes.
Future mods; New front and rear axles both locked with Aussie lockers and geared to 4.88. The front axle will be a “trussed” D-30 HP housing and the rear will be a “trussed” 8.25. All parts are purchased. The rear axle is built and ready for install, I’m setting up the front right now. A new NP231 w/Advance Adaptors HD SYE, Tera 2-low is waiting to be installed as well.

The 1990 XJ, Dads Jeep!

My Dad bought this XJ brand new in 1990 and Jim Mills Jeep in Bassett VA. It was his trusty steed for many years of travel and snow transportation. Dad died waiting on a liver transplant in Feb. 2003. He had a rare liver disease called PSC and just got too weak to receive the transplant. He died at UPMC in Pittsburg PA. You would think the story and the Jeep would change to me at this point but it didn't. My stepmother offered the Jeep to me but I was just too depressed to even look at the Jeep so I let her sell it. Two years passed when I decided I wanted that Jeep back but I was unsuccessful in finding it. By chance one day I noticed a old black XJ sitting in the back of a vacant lot so I pulled in to look at it and even 10' away I could tell it was my Dads Jeep!

I had a LEO friend of mine run the VIN and I located the owner. I purchased the Jeep, which had a blown and dis-assembled engine and a homless person living in it, for $400.

I drug her home and started the resurrection of Dad's Jeep.

I pulled the engine and had it and the head rebuilt by a reputable local engine builder. I gutted the interior and started over with the help of junkyard interiors from several Jeeps. I replaced both axles with a pair that I had rebuilt for my trail rig. I rebuilt the T-case and added a SYE. Then after all of the mechanical systems were in excellent running condition I had it painted by a local paint shop.

Here are the specs.

Engine; 4.0 RENIX, bored/decked/milled with RV cam
Tranny; the AW4 is still all original
T-case; rebuilt with a P.O.R.C. SYE
Axles; HP non-disco D-30 geared 4.10, 8.25 29 spline with Detroit Tru-Trac geared 4.10
Suspension; 2" RE spacers(front) XJ 2.5 " "bastard pack" rear
Interior; Uniden 510 CB, Pioneer stereo, IPod, Bazooka 8" sub, TomTom Nav. New carpet and many replaced panels.
Exterior; New paint, all top shelf PPG($1700 for the paint alone!) TJ "Canyon" 15x8 wheels and BFG AT KO 30x9.5 tires

Other mods; Upgraded to 96 XJ steering box/pump. Upgraded to 96 XJ master cylinder/brake booster. Upgraded to 96 XJ wiper motor/transmission Ford 5.0 fuel injectors

The day I brought it home.

After a couple of years of hard work and bloody knuckles!
