Snow chains on 4x2

I have a 4x2 and with snowboard season coming up, I may need chains when heading up to the mountains. The owners manual says not to install chains on tires bigger than P235/65R17. My commander's stock tires are P245/65R17. Could the manual have a misprint or is it right and I am screwed if I head up to the mountains when chains are required?

Re: Snow chains on 4x2

I would get 'em. Check that they don't pound the crap out of your wheel well. And just be smart about using them, if you need to.

Re: Snow chains on 4x2

As Bravo said pounding your wheel well, it could also effect your turning radius

You might be better off with just a more aggresive tire on a cheap extra set of wheels. The one problem with chains is having to avoid any and all areas where you make it down to bare pavement.
