WOW...New to the JEEP world...

The Jeep Commanders on this website are the coolest rides Ive ever laid my eyes on!! Makes my stock ride look very deprived!! I have an 07 JEEP COMMANDER, 3.7L that Ive had alittle over a year now & Im looking to upgrade. Im thinking 2"-2.5" suspension; 17X8 Black Rock Viper 900B 4.5"Backspace with 255/65R17 tires. Im really looking for a wider stance, Ive read the threads explaining backspacing, & offset. Most of the wheels Ive run across doesnt even mention offset, how critical is this? My next question is where can I find fender flares for my model? Ive searched everywhere & cant seem to find any...ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Im also a do it yourself kinda guy, can I tackle the lift in my garage?

The steel armadillo has steel front fender flares I haven't seen anything for the rear yet. Back spacing is very important to get the tires out where you want them to go but I'm not the wheel guy someone else will have to chime in on that. I think you'll like the wider stance has made a big difference in how the jeep handles IMO.

My wheels are 17x8 with 4.5" backspace and they provide a nice wide stance. If you go with a wheel wider than 8" you'll want to bump up to 5-5.5" backspace.

Offset is just a different way of measuring the position of the hub in relation to the centerline of the wheel. Offset is directly related to wheel width and backspace, so you don't need to worry about it as long as you're paying attention to the backspace.

thanks! I love a wide stance, but only sticking out maybe 2"-2.5" max if I cant find some flares...I would hate for rocks to chip my paint. & Im also looking to do no mods (trimming, bending, etc) What size tires are you running, & what size lift did u go with?

Nevermind, I just stumbled upon the "garage" link...Lots of info on this site...U know 1 thing I noticed as soon as I bought my JEEP, was everybody that has a JEEP waves or honks as they pass, like the motorcyclists...I didnt realize the JEEP community was so proud, I must say, JEEP, even though bone-stock was the best purchase I have ever made. Im almost 32yrs old & cant believe Ive been missing out on this for all this time!!!

I started with the 2" RC lift and 245/70/17 tires. But my front sagged from all the armor and stuff I put on so I upgraded to the OME HD lift and put on 1/4" strut spacers up front to compensate for the added weight of my accessories and am now running 245/75/17.

With that wheel setup, anything over 245/70/17 is going to require the pinch weld mod if you don't want any rubbing.
