Tail lights won't go back in

I took my tail lights out today and can not get them back in correctly. It seemed so easy! I had to put a lot of force behind them to even get the push rivets back in but they still dont look right. Any advice?

The black plastic lip on the side of the tail light located towards the center of the vehicle where the rivets go through, make sure that lip is placed overtop the rivet holes on the vehicle, not behind. Then, the opposite side of the light towards the outside of the vehicle with the metal pegs. Guide them into the slots on the vehicle and pop them in with force. Then push the rivets in.

Be careful about the bottom of the light housing when doing this as it can easily scratch your bumper paint up badly.

.....oops I feel like an idiot now haha. The reason I took the tail lights out was so I could tint them. They turned out terrible. So now I ask if anyone has any experience with aftermarkets like leds or if I should just go with stockers?
