Has anyone had their whole commander painted? I have some paint dmage from my sprinkler systemconstantly spraying my comaander when it's parked on the street. (hard water stains that everyone says they cant get out) I'm wondering if anyone has had theirs painted and get an idea of what i"m in for price wise and if it'd be any cheaper to keep it the sanme colpr or change?

Is a little wet sanding and buffing an option instead of new paint?

I'm not sure. I've had it clay barred. That didn't work . ! detail shop told me they needed to high speed buff it like $400 Another shop said that would work but it would strip the clearcoat and if it happens again it would be worse. It spotty on the side that faces my house. It's all over the windows and pant. It did come out of the wheels and chrome moldings though.

A whole vehicle paint job, done right, would be incredibly expensive. I would give rubbing compound or wet sanding, buffing, and clay barring (again) a shot. The windows can be taken care of with a razor blade or very fine (0000) steel wool with window cleaner - just take care not to scratch the glass because it CAN happen.

I "think" water, chemicals and substances can soak into the paint or coatings and leave stains/marks below the surface. I'd take the opinion of someone more knowledgeable on paint over mine.

Windows can have coatings on their surface, so perhaps stains that stay on the windows are stains in the coatings on the windows?

I 2nd the idea of polishing compound? The only thing you have to loose is a couple bucks for the supplies and a couple of hours of sweat rubbing it on and buffing it off. You should be able to find polishing compound anywhere where they sell car wax. There is coarse and fine, be careful if you use coarse, if you rub to hard on badly damaged paint, it can right through it. I doubt your paint is that badly damaged.

Another option, something I'm considering, WRAP IT. Youtube Vinyl Wrapping a Car. The supplies would only cost a couple hundred dollars, and it is something most DIY'ers can do. I'm considering doing my Commander in Matte Military Green.

Thanks for the input guys. I haven't seen anyone that has had one painted either. I'm still up in the air of which way to go. I think I'll try the polishing compound and see how it comes out while I wait for paint estimates on painting it a copper color

If you get it painted, go for a Wrangler color like the burnt orange or gecko green. You can be unique amongst XKs yet have a factory color!
