My Stainless Steel Exaust tip has arrived.

I had previosuly looked at exhaust tips LOCALY but could not get myself to buy one .. I've had them on other cars and the chrome always peels off and they look worse than stock in a short time

THEN I saw a thread here at jeepcommander.com started by "Black09Commander" about a Stainless Steel exhaust tip ... my 06 Limited has quite a bit of chrome and the stock exhaust tip looks a bit crappy in comparison.

The Stainles Steel tip from ebay looked like a great idea, so I just ordred one. Some of the guys in that thread asked if anyone bought one could they post some pics and how the deal went .. so here I go.

First the unboxing ...

The tip comes in a big box with lots of newspaper stuffed in and it's also rolled up in bubble wrap.

The tip is made of heavy guage Stainless Steel pipe and polished to a deep shine, the end is roll formed somehow for the finshed look, it has three bolts to attach it, two are regular grade 5 plain steel bolts painted black, but the bottom one is a real stainless steel grade 5 bolt, they use a 3/8" wrench .. more on that later.

Sorry this pic is so blurry I am trying to highlight the fact is has a small drilled hole just before the tip's rolled end .. this hole serves as a drain for condensation and water that might get splashed up into the pipe .. and ...

It ALSO serves a great indicator which way is DOWN on the pipe .. put this hole exactly at the bottom so the install looks nice and straight.

Here's a before shot of the stock exhaust pipe

Ok now for the install, the first thing I did was do a trial fitting, my tip fit a little to tight, my exhaust pipe had been bumped before I guess as it was a little bit oval, so I took a grinding stone in the drill (a good file would work just as well) and ground down the top two protrusions (where the top two bolts go in)

NOTE: ****** Continued from above post due to picture posting limits

Then with a little encouragement from a 2X4 I had laying around the tip went on NICE

The tight fit is actually a great feature you do not have to worry about it rattleing aroud back there.

Then I drilled a hole into the stock exhaust pipe through the bottom bolt hole ... I used a slightly smaller bit than the threads so as to not damage them

Finally I tightend the bolt with a regular 3/8" socket and 1/4" ratchet .. the hard stainless steel bolt cut right into the muffler pipe hole I drilled making it very secure .... I planned to put the supplied stanless steel nut on the inside ... but after I finished tighening it I don't feel it's neccesary.

I also left off the top two black painted bolts, I kept them in case, but I don't think I'll be needing them

I'm not sure if you are really supposed to drill that hole, it may be fine to just tighten the bolts down against the pipe .. but I like the idea of it attaching more securly, and the bolt is not hanging down to catch on anything off road too.

There was some question in the original thread of what the seller on ebay is like to deal with ... I found he had great communication, and he is a power seller on ebay too ... shipping was fast and it was packaged great, he answered email quickly too, I would certianly deal with him in the futre, no problem.

Oh and it was only $35 plus shipping!

The seller is "cadillacperformance" on ebay and here's a link his ebay store http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant/cadillacperformance

You didn't happen to take a picture a little further away so we could see what it looks like from the back?

Thanks!!! That looks good. Might consider doing it myself in the future. Either that or an exhaust upgrade.

That's wierd they all come up fine on my computer.

The site tried to load a pop up twice while I was editing my post, and I had to start over ... maybe that's the reason?

I'll try reloading them.

Ok have a look at that now guys ... hopefully the pics come up ... I shoud have figured something was up as most of the thumbnails were missing in my post ... the forum was probably pulling the pics off my own harddrive, so I guess that's why I could see them.
