Wtb (1) tpsm

Looking to buy one TPSM. My valve stem broke while taking the cap off to inflate my tire. I really don't want to spend $90 the dealership is asking. Let me know what you have.

Much thanks,
Patrick

Auto stores sell rebuild kits for TPMS, you do NOT need to replace the entire sensor just for a seal or broken valve stem.

This kit is only a couple of bucks from NAPA.

Of course you will have to remove the tire, then remount and balance it to replace the broken valve stem, once you pull the TPMS out, you can replace these parts on it and re-install it.

Keep in mind the batteries in the sensor typically only last 8 years. Usually that is the only reason to replace the sensor.

I need my tires rotated, but was going to have them install the TPSM while doing so. I haven't talked to them about pricing for installation and/or for the part. I figured I'd ask here first to see what I can find.

Tire stores do rebuilds also. Discount Tire did mine, forgot the price but think as I was getting 4 new tires it was free.

True, that is why you want to shop around, and find one that does. If you can't, I'd find one willing to replace the single part if you bring them the part will they change it out and spend the couple bucks at the auto store for the valve stem kit.

Don't be shocked if you do NOT ask, or comparison shop, the closest tire shop will just install a new TPMS and charge you for it.

Tell them your TPMS sensor is fine, the replaceable valve stem broke and needs replaced.

It is possible to tear up the sensor trying to get a bad valve stem out, you'd think a tire shop would have gained the experience on how to avoid this.

I once had a broken stem on a TPMS and I was able to get it fixed at a local tire shop for about $7. I would recommend visiting one and they might have the part.

Spoke with the dealership today and they said it was all one piece and they would be unable to fix just the valve stem (this goes against what you guys have told me). So I bought a new TPMS today for $30 (I had a $20 off coupon) and the dealership said they would charge $20 to replace it.

I will be getting the old TPMS back tomorrow and will take a look.
