Protecting the JetChip from water

I saw some traffic on setsail98's issue with getting the Jet stage 1 chip wet. I received my chip a couple days ago, and am pleased. However, we had clear a forecast and I'm off on Presidents Day, so I figured I'd throw it in Friday night and worry about covering it on Monday. Upon my travels today, my forgetful mind decided to run thru the car wash before a fourty mile trip. As we're in the auto stall and water flying, one of my sons said "rev it up Dad" (they like the new dynomax). I thought, Dear Lord, what have I done........the chip! Well, I left the stall and hit the interstate....I lost cruise control after about a mile. Then as I pulled into the garage, I got a service engine light. I pulled the chip out and it looked like Niagra Falls pouring out. Again, I procracstinated and brain farted.......COVER YOUR COMPUTER AFTER INSTALLING THIS CHIP! The directions won't warn you either. I'll call Jet in the AM.....Bummer. Big props to you Setsail, for throwing this out, you tried to warn us.

Re: Heed warning from setsail98 on Jet 1 install

Ahhhhhhh man! Sorry Beebejeep HOWEVER, I did not want to add this to a warning because I hoped people would accept the warning as is but since you are in a rut......... Here goes:

Dry the chip
"Air" is FINE (fan)
Heat OR A/C is not!(vents on floor etc)
Putting it quite near a dehumidifier is quite KEWL

Now, I would personaly only give this a three day chance.......
Try again....
Then call JET and tell 'em what happened if still bad.

Re: Heed warning from setsail98 on Jet 1 install

You're the Man! All that I thought about while trapped in the automatic water fall of performance death......was "That guy on the internet warned me, and I procrastinated.......I'm an idiot!" I'll never stray from your words again. Thanks, I'll try drying it. I didn't even get a chance to register it with Jet yet. I'm still waiting on the intake, but I noticed at least a 3mpg increase thus far! I'm sure pouring the coals to it will pull the tank dry quicker than ever, but for modest driving it will save at the pump. Now, I just need to teach my wife about other throttle positions between 0 and floor.

Re: Heed warning from setsail98 on Jet 1 install

I made this simple cover out of sheet aluminum, it keeps water dripping off of all of the ECU connectors. Had quite a bit of rain the last couple of days, and no problems.

Any idea why this problem only happens with the Jet installed? I mean, why isn't it a problem on stock, no chip, vehicles?

Wow, thats looks like a great install to cover the ECU. I didn't go with the jetchip but with the hyperpac which actually you can reprogram the computer to the mode you want and its done. So far I like it and they send you updates via a flash chip to update it if it needs to be.

Re: Heed warning from setsail98 on Jet 1 install

I finished the water cover today. I used some of the casing from an in-op DVD plaver in the attic. After some cutting, grinding, pop rivits, and paint.....it's ready to go. Unfortunately, my digital camera isn't........If it ain't one thing it's another! I'll shop for a new one at lunch tomorrow. The intake should be in tomorrow as well. I'll post all. Thanks for the "chip tips" Setsail. I positioned it behind my computer power supply fan for the past 24.....works like a champ.
