Opinions please

Greetings,

New to this board, but am on several other Jeep boards with the same name.

I am seriously considering purchasing a Commander to keep my Wrangler company in the garage.

How do you folks like your Commanders? Is the 6 cyl engine adequate for most tasks? What kind of milage do you get?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Opinions please

BigDuke6,
Hopefully you'll find most people on this JeepCommander site, like their Jeep Commander. We all did the trade study and for one reason or another felt the JC was the best choice for us. While you while find many comments from folks unhappy with this or that, in the end I think you'll find they still love the vehicle.

For myself, I did the tradestudy and found the JC to be the best vehicle for what I wanted to do with it at any price.
I bought the Jeep Commander 5.7L HEMI, which only comes in the Limited package (which has a lot of the options as standard).
Here are my top reasons for why I bought the Jeep and love what I bought:
•Wanted superior off road capability (this significantly limits the field)
•Wanted a comfortable, maneuverable vehicle with some decent pick up (not a dog) and some light towing capacity.
•Drove the Jeep with the HEMI. LOVE the Hemi, it sells itself.
•Wanted some storage space to haul gear without the vehicle being a monster and difficult to get around, park, off road, etc. JC is 2 ft longer than GC.
•Love the Nav sys / 6-CD / Sirius unit. Very useful tool.
•Love the U-Connect Hands free system on board.
•Lots of little amenities (some more or less important than others, depending on your interest)... heated seats, sun roof, completely variable vents, individual temp controls, theater seating, commanding view /vantage point from driver’s seat, several cubby holes in cabin, wood trim, tinted windows, 3 separate power plugs – 2 in front, 1 in back, just to name a few.... oh, and a third seat if you want it.

It does all these things with great ease and comfort.
It's a pleasure to drive.

Re: Opinions please

Opinions? oh, yeah. I'm sure you'll get them around here. If you own a command. then you can't help being a little crazy about it. I tell everybody that it rides like a cadillac, has great get up and go, has a nice throaty sound through the exhaust, nice and roomy(except for that third row seat (our teen kids favorite)) , looks easy to maintain, great looking dash and interior, crawls off-road like a tank, I personally can't believe the price compared to what we pd for our wrangler. I can't tell you anything about the v-6 eng. We have the 4.7 v-8. Apparently the v-6 is a little new and the 4.7 is tried and tested. ( good engine from what I hear). We made the right choice. Absolutely.

Thumbs up Re: Opinions please

I agree with the Rocket & Haags. I have the 4.7 & Love it. I wouldn't recommend the 3.7- underpowered. We have the Limited, with pretty much everything but the front & rear electric limited slip diffs.
Just had the 6 disc Nav serrius replaced with new unit. It got stuck in the switching cd cycle, waiting a month to get my 4 cds back from who knows where (brand new cds too) But hopefully, they will get them back to me unscathed.
14 mpg in town now, not too bad. 1200 miles
We love our Commander, couldn't be happier.

Re: Opinions please

Have the 5.7L Hemi, gas mileage-who cares!!! I would have bought a Honda if I was concerned about it... I can pass just about anything but a gas station... I have been a Jeep owner/enthusiast for the better part of my life and the Commander is a home run as far as I am concerned. Also own a '05 Rubicon.

Re: Opinions please

we bought the simplest commander on the market 3.7 4x4 the only options (if they are indeed options) i have are back-up sensors, rear heat&air & charcoal colored alloy wheels. the wife & i love it !
i dont think that it is under powered at all with only 25 less horsepower than the small 8 averaging 14.5 mpg, i also live in iowa, alot flatter here. also own 04 wrangler

Re: Opinions please

Didn't mean to offend by saying the 3.7 is under powered, I'm an old motor head from the 70's, I think everything is unerpowered. My dd is an 03 Liberty with the 3.7 & it's got plenty of power. I test drove a 3.7 WJ and I thought it was a bit underpowered. I love the 3.7, I've had no problems at all & would buy another. My son drives a 02 GC which was my wife's before she got her Commander, so we are a three Jeep family!

Re: Opinions please

I bought the Hemi (but as they say (whoever 'they' are)) "different strokes for different blokes"), and made sure to have all the options, only because I intend on keeping it for many years. I did not want to skimp on such an investment that I hope will suit me just fine for many years. I also opted for the bumper to bumper warranty and the lifetime free oil changes.
