Brake indicator - flashing and annoying

Hi all. I have a 2010 with 25K miles on it. All of a sudden, the brake indicator light is coming on and then flashing and staying on. Does this simply indicate the rear pads are worn? Is it the cable?

It is incredibly annoying because I have to lift the emergency brake handle a little, drop it and then it starts flashing within 5 minutes.

Any help would be awesome!

The brake fluid level may be low triggering the level sensor.
But, if the fluid is low, it usually means the front or rear pads are in need of replacement...as the pads wear, the fluid takes up the wear by staying in the caliper.

Or, there is a mis adjustment of the parking brake switch.....either condition will light the dashlight.
