Smile Jeep Commander 2008 Transmission Service??

Hello to Everyone first of all,
I have been going to this forum site for at least 2-3 yrs for answer's to general Commander questions and it appears that everyone on here is very knowledgable and helpful, so that you for that. I have a 2008 jeep commander, 3.7L V6 4x4 but not selectable i believe it is the quadratrak 1-2 system. Anyway with that aside, my jeep has 106,000 miles and runs like a champ, i have noticed that the transmission has been hesitant when shifting from 2nd-3rd gear, not rough or popping just slightly hesitant. I was thinking maybe a drop pan, fluid and filter change might be in order, but i've read where there is no dipstick for trans and you have to have a special tool since it is a mercedes trans in the jeep. Here's what i was thinking, if i drop the pan, drain the fluid, change the filters, measure how much came out of trans then replace the approx. amt. then go to maybe autozone and have them check level with there tool and see if i need to add or remove? Also, should I have the transmission warm when removing trans fluid so that the fluid in the coil exits as well or does it matter? Just trying to get the jeep interstate ready as I am going Travel Nursing and will need a Interstate Ready vehicle. Thanks in advance, Brandon

You are going about this the right way.
Measure what you take out and replace the same amount.
I buy my filter and ATF from the dealer and the first time I asked if they would check it for me after I changed it.
They were happy too since I bought the parts from them.
It doesn't hurt to ask.
